does it turn over, start then make a grinding noise for 2 to 3 seconds then stop?? if so, you will just need to pull it out, take it apart, note the way the fork that throws the bearing in and out came out like, then clean and grease it all up again. put it back together and bam all fixed.
hope that helps.

No when you go to start makes a loud squelling noise amd sometimes it tries to turn over and again makes a really loud clunking noise. When push start its fine something to do wqith starter.

did you use a sierra starter or a vitara reduction starter ? because the sierra starter foul's on the 1600 block and requires grinding of either the block or the starter motor, if this isnt done then it causes misalignment of the starter motor and incorrect meshing of the starter to the ring gear.

So your choices are either grind back your starter where it fouls on the block, or

Find a 1600 reduction starter as they bolt straight in and clear everything and have more torque than the 1300 sierra starter, thus making them a better starter and longer lasting

Sorry to hijack but does anyone have a part number for the 1600 reduction starter? All the vit ones i've found down here have the same starter as my sierra. I'm running a modified colt (not 100% sure) starter but i'd prefer the 1600 option. I didn't fancy taking to my block with the grinder to fit the sierra one! Cheers!

Thanks muchly! My vit 16v vit motor came with the chunkier sierra style starter. And when I tried to buy a new starter from the auto elecs they couldn't get the slimmer style model and told me they had probably been superseded?
