ok so the rear of my Jim is making a bloody wired noise. to start off with I though something was in the drumb and bouncing under the shoes.. its kind of a clicky crack... it happens under 60kph then it go's away straight line or corners has no effect on cars rolling, eg can't be felt, just herd. sounds a bit like a lockright when turning. it started at random, coming home from a weekend away.. any one had this? I though it might be cv in tailshaft but sounds to far back, and rear draws make it a little hard to diagnose off sound alone!

are they CV joint at the box & UJ at the diff end? could it be a dry/rooted uni joint?
does the noise match wheel speed or engine speed?

Driving on gravel roads? Might be a pebble in the tyre. Annoying until it gets flicked out at speed!

Check for loose bolts and nuts on suspension, rad arms, brake plate etc. They do come loose and could just be things moving around.
Try adjusting your brake shoes up.

Joe wrote: Wheel bearing? x2 I had the same kind of thing recently... Would come at random, under load and coasting in neutral, forwards and reverse, didn't matter how I drove it was there. Ended up having several of the ball bearings smashed into halves

LOL, that's a lot of possibilities. I won't add anything because you'll be pulling the rear end apart while you work through that list.

I would start by visually inspecting all the under-body components and then if that didn't reveal anything, emptying all the crap out of the car and going for another drive.

I will get a video of the noise tommorow. I'd usually say wheel bearings straight up but the bearing felt smooth.

Yeah now I think of it, my rear wheel bearing was flogged out, but for some reason it didn't leak (like a Sierra) or make a noise (like a Sierra), it was only when I pulled the diff down that I noticed it. There isn't a click now
