So I wanted somewhere else to put some spotties on my car. I fabricated a quick light bar to go up there that could fit four spotlights.

This is the car with the rubber stops:

Rubber Stops gone:

Bar made:

The bar it is made out of is ¾ inch tube that has been hot dip galvanised. This will make sure that if any moisture gets inside (doubtful) it won’t be too much of a problem. 5mm plate was used to mount it to the car.

On the car and spotties on:

Cost me absolutely nothing had the spotties the steel was scrap coz you need like 800mm of tube and a tiny bit of flat steel and you can knock it together in under the day.

thats a good looking light bar, can you rest the bonnet on the light bar or would the bonnet hit the lights?

yeah the bonnet rests just on the bar i made sure of this by drilling the holes out right at the back of the mounting plates.

Hows the glare like at night on the front window?

My light bar reflects all the dust dirt etc...= bad while driving long distance.
Only good for slow technical stuff.

thats really the only reason i made it up was for the slow tech stuff and for looks. Not really sure if this happens yet only put the spotties up there the sarvo and havent yet wired them all up. Do you reckon i should swap the inside ones to the outside? or leave it how it is?

has anyone else done something like this before? On another forum they were talking about the alternator. Just wondering if people have had trouble trying to run 4 or more spotties on a standard sierra alternator. What else would fit?

Yes, you will definitely need an alternator upgrade. Easy to do from what I've seen and heaps has been written up about it. But if you have any more q's then don't be afraid to ask here, we won't bite your head off like some Outer's wankers!!

If you can find the threads that cover this you will find everything you need to know. I think it is the EL Falcon alternator.

I found these pretty good:

http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=79826

http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/phpBB2/ft ... alternator

or just check them all out:

http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/phpBB2/se ... de=results

I've not heard about running 2 alternators. But even 2 Sierra alternators will only put out about 90amps compared to the Falcon's 110A. Not really worth it is it?

thanks for the links
i didn't realise the standard alternator only put out 45A i thought they were 60A
i got the idea from seeing a sierra with a 12v and a 24v alternator

that light bar looks GREAT!. but i'll have 2 get someone 2 make 1 4 me as i don't have the equipment. BUT, thats sitting in the bolts 4 the rubber stops. does it bounce @ all? are them nuts in the top of the window definately strong enough? if so I'll get someone 2 make me 1.

well driving around on bumpy dirt roads for about 5 hours didnt hurt it and it has been on for about 3 months now with 4 spotties on all the time. It did vibrate a bit a idle so i cut out some pieces of thin rubber from clark rubber to put in behind the mounts to stop it from vibrating and since then it has been great. Easy as to make just make sure you either take the windscreen sorround off the car or dont weld on the car as slag burns glass....
