hey all,

so i split a radiator hose yesterday and i didnt really think how hard it would be to do. the hose in question is the one that goes into the block and at the other end goes into a metal sleeve.

i cannot find a possible way of how it can be removed with any sort of easy, i have the alternator on one side and on the other i have an engine mount looking thing. there isnt much room and the clamp is facing the wrong directing making it almost impossible to get to, without removing components and wasting time.

so if you have a factory g16b (spoke to alien and his engine is slightly different and more open, sierra with g16b) would u be able to tell me how this is done? and what do i need to do? if you dont understand what im doing and have nothing better to do, could u go have a look at ur engine and have a look.

i was hoping to have this done by today (currently 5:15 :( ), so please reply as soon as you can.
thanks
Mitch

either stick a screwdriver behind the manifold brace or stick a socket and ratchet on it and undo it

defintely try getting a socket onto the hose clamp... always works better than a screwdriver.

i suppose if you wanted to be brutal you could cut the hose clamp off with a hacksaw blade, then when you fit the new hose and clamp, make sure you can get to the screw for next time?

PS: can you tell its hot in perth? 2 threads on cooling in one day =P

yeah i will try get a socket on it, but once i got the socket on there i wont be able to move the ratchet because of the manifold brace. i highly doubt i could get a screw driver behind the brace but i will give it a go. i thought about the hacksaw but there isnt enough room lol.

i got some photos's, there not very good as it hard enough to see with ur eyes. photos will take time as crap internet.

thanks

this is where an assortment of 1/4" sockets are worth their weight in gold :)

Take the manifold bracket off, 4 14mm bolt's & a couple of clip's...

in all the shots you can see some form of obstruction in the way of the clamp.

:P ratchet spanner...

If you have new clamp's you can just cut the 2 band's of the ole clamp, you'll need good'ish side cutter's tho.

If its the type of hose clamp i think it is, just get in there for some snips and cut the two bits of wire that wrap around the hose.. new hose clamp is cheap enough

Just chop the pricks off and replace them. Very simple solution.

hey all,

got it all sorted out :D i took off/ rotated the manifold brace (only 3 bolts, 2 at the top and 1 down low where it swivles) so i could get to the clamp (otherwise impossible to do so). once i did that then i had to get the stiff clamp off, took me about 25 mins to get that off, i only had about 15cm of movement for the spanner. i know what im buying next....ratchet spanners :D then i had the joy of doing it all backwards, took me 4.5hrs from start-finish, including AZ checks. that has got to be one of the hardest-easy job that can be done.

so all is done, thanks steak knife for suggesting to take that bracket off otherwise i would of been there all night long untill someone else did and thanks to everyone else for ya input.

cheers again :D
