Hi am new to the site and just wondering what the difference is between a mini spool and a lock rite rear locker for a Vitara? Are they the same thing? Do they work hand in hand with each other? etc

Thanks

8O Come on this is a very basic question and common.

Search Mini spool.

Permanetly locked like a welded diff

Search Lock-right/ Detroit/etc

Locks when load is applied to the diff from the tailshaft. Will release when load is released for cornering when setup correctly.

no need to Grimbo him, seems like a straight forward question.

as BlueSuzy said:

Mini Spool is the smart way to permanently lock you diff, not the most ideal set up for a road driven 4wd

Lock-Right/Auto locker will lock & unlock depending on the load & traction on & off road.

Thanks for replying so quickly!

So based on that info, for a daily driver that I also use for weekend 4wding and touring would the lock rite be a better all round choice?

Sorry, i was visiting outers :D

Lock-right is a better cheaper solution.

But i do not like all the things that can go wrong with them over time or even new..

Noise/Banging/Clicking
Shudder
Constant Wear
Handling

I run a welded rear. I love to drive her regularly, and no banging etc. Most of my problems come with tyre choice. Twisted axles etc etc. (Sierra)

Tyre wear over time is also an issue though. Also not legal. Unsure about auto lockers.

How hard do you/will you drive your suz?

Considered an air locker Mick?

I had a autolocker (lockright) in my Sierra for about 3 months, and absolutely hated it.

My order of preference would be -
Airlocker
Minispool
Genital herpes
AIDS
Lockright

Others have had a better time with their lockrights, but I hated it.

Welcome too.

I know with my auto locker in the rear of my coily, i hardly notice it on road. You may have to change your driving style a little bit like when you are cornering, try to keep the speed constant or you may find it will grab. It will click and bang a little when parking, but it is nothing you wont get used too
