yeah i know. steel diff housing and 5.12 gears in the diffs are on order

cost me 1755 for the kit plus 200 modifications (due to it being a widetrack) and 800 to fit it.

cv's look abit stretched, it doesn't look like the diff been dropped that much?

looks more than 3', it will settle down a little with a few kays on the springs.

atari it only looks like that because the wheels were not aligned. when i drove forward it pushed the front up.

the front is now about an inch lower.

somethings wrong with it though as the front suspension is soft as hell and the back is rock hard.

i think the front of my car is much heavier than the standard vitara so i may need some coil spacers to level it out a bit.

but i cant wait to test it offroad. i should be going out with the suzuki club this weekend

When you get a chance can you take some vertical measurements from the centre of each wheel to the top of the wheel arch opening and post them?

you shouldn't need spacers!

i ended up with a 2nd set of front springs from calmini, they were a slightly stiffer rate.

did fr@udwheeldriveu$@ install it?

no i didnt get that particular company to install it.

they would of done it for a grand but i went to a place near me and had it done for 800. Mind you there was a lot of piss farting around to do.

ok from centre of wheel to top of arch is 510 for front and 580 for rear

heres the measurements with a pic. the front looks high there but it is actually lower now as i have gotten the wheels aligned. before when i went forward the front pushed up and dropped down when i reversed.

That's interesting. Stock should be 450mm at the front and 461mm at the rear. On a 1.6 swb it definitely lifts it more even when the springs have been used for a while. The rear is about right for a fresh set of Calmini springs but front on 1.6 would get minimum 75mm extra and normally at least 100mm when fresh. The 2.0 engine obviously increases the weight over the front. I'm trying to figure out what I'll be up against especially once the high mount winch and bar go on mine. I know of a swb with the 2.0 V6 and he said the Calmini springs were a bit soft in the front and put Calmini GV springs in the front and reckoned it was pretty much spot on. I have some OME XL-7 springs I can try too and spacers if need be. Keep an eye on it after you have done a bit of offroad work as the Calmini springs can settle a bit. Be interesting to see by how much in your case.

well the 2.0 litre vitara has the GV running gear. thats probably why and yes they are soft in the front. might have to ge a set of gv springs in. would you know what they are worth?

4wdusa should have already known about the using GV springs in the front of your vitara!!

well i gueess they didnt. they didnt know that certain things didnt come with it or what needed to be fabricated. did your atari have pressed steel control arms or cast steel ones ?

The widetracks should not have the pressed steel arms. I take it that Calmini still don't offer the different diff drop brackets yet even though they know what is required. Any other issues you had to deal with?

yeah i was asking 4wdusa about the widetrack kit for at least 18 months

the yanks are just so slow in developing it i just said modify the normal kit coz i cant wait another year or so.

What i had to change was:

Diff locator, and the diff angle locator had to have an inch put on them

A backet that holds the diff locator had to be cut off the chassis and made 1 inch longer to accomadate the extended diff locator

I had to purchase ball joints from an older vitara as mine were cast into the control arm.

Im pretty sure that was it but im either going to get some GV springs ordered in or just get some coild spacers.

yeah mine had the ball joints pressed into the cast steel arms...

got the tape measure onto mine today & its sitting level @ 630mm front & rear with a 3"BL. i run around with no back seats & around 50kg of stuff in the back & it rides alot nicer. after a few 1000kays it settled in a bit but still rides stiff.

yeah, i had the vitara springs changed for the GV springs. they are a firm spring rate. i never ran the vitara springs in my zook but i do still have the calmini struts in it.
