hey everyone in still on a search for a jimny after test driving a few im very impressed with it overall, one thing is i dont like is how hard they rev @ 100 and 4300 @ 110 i realise this is normal and the jimny loves it but i dont! can anyone tell me if there is any way round this maybe to drop the revs down to 3000 @ 100 i could live with that. is bigger tyres a possibility or will it then have no power at 100, diff gears ? i would be looking at raising the suspension and bigger tyres maybe 30 or 31'' but not strait away.

3000 @ 100 and you will get around 150km to a tank of fuel and have no power.
it is a 1.3 ltr motor not a 5.0 so there is not really any power to push it at 100kph
and then there is the brick shaped body which is not the best aerodynamically.

the jimny gets reasonable fuel economy even revving around 4300 on the motorway. Only way would be to put a 1.6 in it and fit 235/75r15 along with a spring lift. (you will get away with these without cutting the guards)

Are you sure the car you test drove wasn't running 205/60 or 205/65 Commodore tyres? I have noticed the odd cheapskate running those. That would explain that gearing.

I wouldn't have expected a Jimny to have worse highway gearing than a Sierra.

MIne does about 3300 doing around 100k's an hour on 235/75/15 cooper STTs, its a bit painfull but isn't too bad, get around 400 to a tank still, but i do drive like a granny at times, low range does suffer how ever on those steeper hill climbs...

yep the jimny will do that.
and do it all day if you want it too and never miss a beat =]

like shep said. there is only a tiny 1.3 Ltr under the bonnet... and not really a nice cruising car. just turn the stereo up and live with it revving high.

but.... (my bad if you know this stuff)

you can go bigger but it will cost you more in fuel and depending how much bigger you go will ruin the low range (just means you have to take things on allot faster.... makes it quite scary and really bumpy!)

you could fix the low range but that costs lots... $2500 for the part from japan. or you can fit a sierra transfer case to it (jimny transfer cases are chain driven and sierra's are gear driven)

or you can change the gearing but then you just put yourself back to of close to where you started revving at 4000 at 110...


most people go up to a 215/75 or 235/75 tyre.
mostly because there is a far greater range of tyres suited for off-roding and doesn't cost the world. bigger tyres go better off road too.
i went up to a 215/75 all-terrain with a 40mm lift. this doesn't mess up the gearing too much. but you do notice it. also doesn't rub in anyway.

you will have trouble fitting 30 or 31" tyres. will need to chop those guards allot, get a fairly big lift and get either get reduction diff or transfer gears if you want it to run properly.
will be unstoppable off-road and f***ing awesome but very costly.

mines on 235s and revs nowhere near that for 110k/hr. ~3400 for 110k, around 3100 for 100k, its a newer elec t/case one though so I think the diff ratios etc are different.

I still get 400 + to a tank easily on the 235s with lift etc.

can any one tell me what year did jimnys go from tha old g13b to the new motor did they do the g13b in a dohc

G13B to M13A in mid to late 2000. My build date is AUG 2000 and mine has M13A. I'm pretty sure dual airbags were introduced at the same time.

Soft Tops only ever had the G series motor and were built in Spain not Japan

I'll have to pay attention next time I drive our stock 2007 Jimny at 100

after test driving a g13b model i want one over any other small car. Awsum! i betta start looking for a air bag model then coz they dont rev as hard at 100

my old G13 Jimny on stock size maxxis 751's used to do 4000@100kmh, I hated it bit got used to it.

My current M13A Jimny on 235/75 revs 3400 @ 100kmh, much better, although it is a lil slower!
