I was approaching the stage of a baleno engine swap into a Maruti 1L and had planned to do a DIY VSS until I pulled the cluster and realised the mounting of the odometer is different to Japanese models and it was going to be a bit more hack than I wanted. I started looking at eBay for a second cluster to play with when the offerings from India caught my eye.

Specifically, there was a stud on ribbon 4 that was labelled Reed. Assuming this meant Reed switch and that it was installed for compatibility with the MPFI Gypsy models I thought it was worth a shot. Cost me roughly $120 and arrived on my doorstep within a fortnight.

Bonus findings it comes with a check engine light and the VSS definitely pulses. I’ll update when installed to check it works with the baleno ecu. You do lose the trip meter which isn’t great but for the trade offs I’m happy.

Nice work!

I'm pretty confident it will work with the Baleno ECU. As far as I can tell the ECU just needs to know the car is in motion or not, it's not doing anything complex with the signal.
