Hi I have an 1981 SJ40T ute that I an fixing up. (Narrow Track)
It is stock standard, however I have 15 X 8" rims and 31X10.5 R15 tyres and new 30mm lift suspension lift.
I just test fitted the wheels to see if they are likely to fit and wondering if the 30mm lift will be enough?
Below are some photos with the original worn out suspension still in place.
Also concerned that the wheels might hit on the chassis/ inner guards at full lock.
What has worked for other people? It's for the kids to learnt to drive, so don't want it too high and easy to roll.

Suspension lift doesn't allow for bigger fitments of tyres, it just changes the resting height. Only bumpstop spacers, body lift or guard chopping will allow more guard room.

Your photo's aren't showing up. An 8" rim isn't the best choice to run a 10.5 tyre. It will make it harder to stop scrub on the guard and the spring.

Are you intending on the ute ever being roadworthy or is it a farm car for kids? Cutting the guards would be the easiest way to make the tyres fit for a farm car, particularly a ute.

Note that your ute also has pretty small CV's, you will be able to break them pretty easily with 31" tyres if the car is abused off road.

Leave it standard if its purpose is to teach. 31 10.5’s will make the gearing too tall, the steering heavy, and they will foul the chassis and front bumper outrigger.

31’s are a very large tyre on a sierra and require quite a bit of work. Lots of people are willing to spend the money and live with the compromises for perceived off road capability but they don’t make the car better to drive.

* And Brenno’s comments. Suspension lift doesn’t provide tyre clearance.
