Hi all, the gearbox in my little jimny shit the bed over the weekend. It has been slipping a little while cold, then completely lost drive. Its back running now, but was significant amounts of metal in the oil and filter when the mechanic took off the oil pan.

Really just looking to understand if the Jimny is dead, or if I should pursue repairing it.

Also any recommendation for transmission shops in Melbourne would be appreciated.

auto vs manual would help. but really any "significant metal" means its dead.

Reference to a filter makes me think it’s an auto.

These autos are weak and difficult to find. It’s rare to see an auto Jimny in a wreckers with the auto still in it- they get snapped up. While service parts are available I suspect a full rebuild might be prohibitively expensive.

Correct, it's an Auto. currently looking at available replacements, but I think the little Jimny might b parked up for a little while.
