Hi,
First time posting... I have an 05 GV v6 man pre facelift model..
Question is, it turns over (and the coilspacs are getting hot) is this a common fault or is the ecu faulty?
I got the car for a bargain and have no history.

What makes you think the ECU has a fault? Have you checked for spark? for injection? Does the check engine (and other dash) lights come on when you turn the ignition on? Does it have fuel in the tank, does the fuel pump work?

There can be many things that will allow a car to crank & not fire, and since you got it as a bargain, I suspect because it's not running, there's no telling what may have been done to it - which means you start with the basics and work from there...

Or is there something you know and haven't told us?

And no, it's not common for ECU's to be faulty. They are very robust and have lots of protection built in to them.

Have to get you on that one.. that particular car with that ecu, it is very common to be faulty, perhaps not ecus fault entirely but still very common for failure.

Rhodest - Check the post just below or above yours, these ecus have been positioned directly under the ac drain pipe so if that pipe leaks it leaks on the ecu and fries them, definitely worth a quick look at your ecu for signs of water.
