changed all the gear oil dif x2, gearbox, transcase
now i have this gear oil burning smell, though not bad but noticeable, No sign of leaks
the transfer case was low less than 500ml came out an sure i put at least a liter back in but cant see that leaking
will check to see if its still full next few days

Is there a question here?

I'd say the only way you can get an oil burning smell is oil on (or in) the exhaust, and after an oil change exercise I would suspect spilled oil.

aware of that but after 1,000km still a slight smell

Are you sure what you're smelling is gear oil?

gear oil is distinctive

Burning gear oil certainly does have a very distinctive smell, but you should never smell it whilst driving the vehicle, that would imply gear oil is landing on the exhaust close to the engine. A visual inspection should be adequate to determine the source- it will have made quite a mess.
