Hey guys,

I have the dash out at the moment sorting out a couple other things so I thought be a good time to work out what's going on with my heater controls.

Currently the car blows cool air when in the front vents position and hot air at the windscreen. The temp control lever does nothing to the temperature in any position, the temp is instead controlled by changing where the airflow is going.

My temp control lever is very stiff and can only move it halfway towards hot (at risk of bending it to get that far). Can see it moving the linkage in the engine bay for the heater tap. Flaps all seem to move fine when changing airflow direction and as far as I can tell recirc function works fine (certainly moves the flap). Have factory AC (no belt on it).

Any ideas on where to start here?

Dealing with HVAC controls is a pain. They're prone to bending and are hard to get back into place correctly once they've been messed up.

Just to clarify though, it's not possible to get hot air out of the face vents. heat is only feet and demister. You can close the face vents by selecting floor or demist.

Sounds like the biggest problem is the heater tap isn't moving through it's full range. detach the cable from the tap and ensure it's moving freely. It's common for them to get stiff.

Aha! That is excellent info RE hot air not being able to direct to the face vents. I was super puzzled what could be causing that behaviour  Thanks heaps. It'll be 100% related to the heater tap then.

Suspect it's jammed open. Is it a serviceable part or replacement job?

Hopefully it will be easy to work out if anything is bent while I've got the dash apart, can see the whole mechanism so with any luck I'll be able to get it back to normal.
