Hey everybody I’m new to the forum. I imported a Jimny into Canada it’s not 1998 in mint shape with 100,000km. It has the 13GBB with AW17 automatic transmission. The transmission is stuck in limp mode (only reverse and 2nd gear). I had the transmission rebuilt with full kit from Cobra Transmission with no luck. I checked the fuses, wiring and resistance on the transmission sensors and shift solenoids. Next up is the TCM module. Just wondering if this is a common issue someone on the forum already fix before I though more $$$ at it . Any help would go a long ways! Cheers

I'm not aware of it being an inherent problem. I believe there are at least some diagnostics available through the OD or Power/Eco lights. Is the behaviour exactly the same before and after the rebuild?

Yes at first it would go into limp mode intermittently, then it went into limp mode permanently. I did the diagnostic test, I got code 12 which is no faults detected. I changed the ATF fluid multi times then decided to have it rebuilt at reputable transmission shop. They told me the the transmission internals were fine. I checked all the wiring for damage and the output/input shaft and range selector switch for proper resistance. I noticed when I turn the key the TCM makes a single loud click from a relay. But the ECM does not. This makes me believe the TCM could be the cause. Unfortunately Jimnys are rare in Canada so I can’t find a another one to confirm if the tcm click is normal.

Did you eventually find the problem with limp mode?
