Hi,
Would a long range coily fuel tank (brown Davis) fit in a 1987 sierra to be used as the efi fuel tank for a g16b conversion?

Figured since I have to change the tank, might as well go a long range tank.

Cheers,

Tim

A coily tank will bolt into a leafy sierra so i can't see why a longrange coily tank wouldn't fit a leafy

It’s unlikely the long range tank has provision for the in tank pump and swirl pot- they were redundant in the Australian market, it’s just good fortune the SJ80 tank was set up for them. You’re likely to have to use an external lift pump/swirl pot/hp pump arrangement or mod the tank for a swimmer pump because the long range tank will just have a vent, pickup and return.

Tank should fit- I’d be surprised if Brown Davis changed the design between models, but watch for clearance around the rear shackles- they may have added capacity over the lead tank by using space the shackles need on a leaf car.

Makes sense, I might just email them and see what the difference is between the coily long range and leaf one. I will post back when I get an answer

Actually I vaguely remember reading something about there being a difference on longrange tanks due to the shackles, think i may have read it in a old GRP catalogue

Well I have emailed them now regards the differences in the tanks. Wonder if they could custom make one that has the leaf long range with the coily input so I can put a vitara EFI pump in.

On another note, in doing this conversion will the g16b rev the same? Because I have reduction gears on 31s and a t the moment sit at 3850 revs at 100. Will the G16b do the same and should I remove my reduction gears?

Engine will rev the same- only gearing or tyres will change rpm at a certain speed. The G16b will probably pull 100 with no reduction gears and 31’s but it will suck off road. 3850 is high though- you should be revving 3550 or so. You’re aware the reduction gears don’t correct the speedo yeah?

When I was looking into it one of the long range tank manufacturers offered the option of provision for vitara in tank pump, I can't remember which though.

4wdsystems was by a fair whack the cheapest, that was a year or 2 ago though.

Yeah I'm using gps speed cause my Speedo stopped working a long time ago. I don't know what type of reduction gears it has as it had them when I bought the car.

And good to know, I will have a suss of 4wd systems

Still seems too high. Even if your 31’s are worn and short (29”- an extreme case) I still get about 3700 rpm max with 6.5 transfer gears. I’d be getting under the car and counting turns to work out what your transfer and diffs are.
