Halp!

I cannot get the speedo gear unit out of the transfer case, I think the gear is a bit munted as the main cluster turns, but the gear shaft doesn't....

I removed the retaining screw, but no matter how tight I grip the sleeve, I cannot get it to budge. I have already had one case destroyed, I don't need another fucked.

I have access to bugger all equipment, but may have some gear at work that I can use...

The little tag the retainer goes through, give it a lil TAP with a hammer side way`s, you want to turn it not snap it. That should loosen the o`ring seal up. If you can get it to turn, get the tag so you can get a screw driver under it 7 again TAP upwards.

Hope that help`s

the retaining bolt goes through the sleeve and locks into a recess on the cable. Pull the bolt all the way out and try to twist the sleeve. if it twists then it should come out.
i just rebuilt another t/case and had trouble getting the speedo drive out as it was stuck in wih silicone. gave it a twist and pulled at the same time and it came out that fast i smacked myself in the mouth.

Have done things similar once or twice. Luckily no one else is usually around!

This might be completely retarded as its been years since I rebuilt my case but could you get compressed air in their to help push while you pull?

Well I got it out finally- turned it using vice grips, with a shifter on those. heaps of fox piss, then tapped the vice grips with a hammer, and out she popped.
No visible damage either - weird!

Hi mate good to see you got it out in the end.
I put rockhoppers in mine last weekend. Mine was as hard to get out. I ended up using a bench press to press the outputshaft out. I did thid very very slowly. I could see the speedo was spinning. I did the save to put the shaft back in. It was very risky but it worked. I have driven it for 4 days now ans it is working soo this mite be a last resort for anyone next time.
Just go slow and be carefull.
