[Gwagensteve]

Bill, an ex president of the Vic club, runs Doubleblack offroad, and offers a range of urethane flares. Bill and I been talking over the last few weeks and I agreed to take some photos of Bill's flares on my junk so there's some accurate info about what various flares cover.

Obviously, there's no vendor/yellow star system on here, and, I'm not affiliated with doubleblack offroad in any way. I'll be buying my flares the same as anyone else, I just did some work so everyone can see what covers what. Sorry if anyone thinks this is blatant marketing, that's not really my intention - it's not like TJ flares are hard to find, but at least there's a series of "like for like" photos for comparison.

The car is my 1.0 ute. It runs WT diffs.

The tyre/wheels details are as follows:

The GV rims are just that - GV rims, but they have been narrowed to 6.5" (this has had no effect on the overall width of the car on these wheels.) tyres are 9/34 16 swampers.

The Beadlocked rims are 2WD F100 rims flipped and offset. They are 5.5" rims before beadlocking, so they are effectively 6" rims now. They have about 2.25" of backspacing. Tyres are 9/34 16 swampers.

The alloy rims are 15X7. Not sure on offset but I'd reckon backspacing at about 3.5" (so 5P offset is likely) Tyres are AT 31 10.5's

The Q78's are on 15X7 rims, beadlocked for about 7.5" of overall rim width. Backspacing on these is about 3.5"

The calmini style flares are 5" in width.
The TJ flares are 7" in width.

Yes, my guards are a bit wonky. I tried to get them to fit as well as possible without too much work.

Unfortunately those double black ones look like they would be more at home on a defender then a Sierra, especially as the coverage isn't that great. The Jeep flare are great for width although the amount of chopping required to make the 'work' properly is a bit excessive.

that was some good info, considering im going to run hilux diffs with 33s on 15x8 sunnies i think i will have to run the jeep flares, i really like the look of the bushwackers but the cost is a killer as well as their ability to handle the aust bush is questionable. why doesnt someone try and make a fibreglass mould of the bushwackers and start to sell them? im sure they are copyrighted but im sure we could change it slightly!!!!
does anyone have some bushwackers that i can show a fibreglassing friend?
i also had another idea, using a spacer that sits behind the factory wide tracks and gives an extra couple of inches, this is the way i wanted to go and i was also going to see my fibreglasser to see if he could make up a 3 inch spacer block that follows the same lines of the flare, might look shit though. does anyone have photo shop and could mock up some sample pics???

Good info. But those with wt's wtf is wrong with the stocko wt flares with rubber?

so how far do they come out from the guard.

i thinking about a set of them to cover a set of 31x11.5x15 on a -25 7 inch rim with nt diffs but i need to know how far off the panel they are.

this is them on a nt with wt diffs and 70 mm back spaced 8" rims with 34 10.5 swampers


sorry i dont have one straight on but they just stick out of the flare,but 70 mm is a pretty large ofset

They bend like plastic but don't spring back anywhere near as well.

yep they look like garden edge screwed onto a highly flexable steel flare( shit)
and I bet they bounce backa treat when you smash them.
Ive had mine flat smeared across the panel and they popped straight back try doing that with the rubber edged steelies.

I'd broken every sierra mirror in victoria, and I seemed to break at least one every trip.

The knockoff versions are of terrible quality and just swing around in the breeze.

Plus, I can see stuff that's behind me now.

Ok yeah on my swb my left sides are slightly bent..They are still fullsize out from the body.

But now my new lwb has standard plastic wt flares Try and get them!!

Does anyone know if they've stopped making the sierra flares or just out of stock? Can't see them on the site and they're not on ebay, used to see them all the time on ebay.

Call them. AFAIK they were never on the site. And don't let them charge you more than $60 freight. A guy up here was quoted 395 for flares plus $60 for freight (same as what I paid) but when he rang back they just doubled the freight. No reason. Told him to like it or lump it.

Guy was also a bit of a tosser when I asked for just the front pair for my UTE. WTF would I need the rears?
