Hey guys,

Looking for a more family practical car for the wife. Shes got a 2010 jimny and had it since new and it's been a great car no dramas other than the steering wobble which Suzuki were useless and I ended up fixing it myself ( new kingpins wheel bearings shim yaadada ) so we are looking at grand vitaras I've read up on the head issues in the early 2.4 but what year still have issues? Some say 2010 and earlier some say avoid all together. What the consensus hereguys?

From my research it seems 2009-2011 J24 engines had a lot of problems,

I have a friend with a late 2011 (purchased new) and still no issues.

We purchased a 2016 NGV new in May, 5 years warranty etc. I'm planning on keeping it for a long time (kid friendly etc etc) and I'm not worried.

My 2010 2.4 gv had zero issues in 110,000kms
I wouldnt buy one without a full suzuki service history, seems to be the ones flogged offroad (water crossings) and ones running inferior coolant to whats specified

Thanks guys, there seems to be a tonne of these 2.4 motors out there with only a few failing early on. Looking at a 2013 with 36000 on it today from a dealer few others similar vintage around with a little more Kay's see how we go.

Mine was weaping coolant through the block and the oil filter would undo its self fairly often.

Laid down the deposit today on one late 2013 build date black sport 26000km with service history and a few extras looks good mrs is happy so happy days. Saw a few today not sure how a dealer can think full service history means 4 oil changes in 86000kms but best of luck to them as well as advertising on car sales 20000 but then having it at 25000 when you get there photos to come when we pick it up because everybody loves pictures

Sweet! I was very dissapointed with the level of low k used NGVs when we went car shopping. So ended up getting a new one. I did hardball the dealer though and got a bunch of stuff thrown in.
