Admittedly it had been in a car crash but it was only minor, but the parts.... Where should I start, standard shocks second hand $800, grille $400, fuel pump (right next to exhaust pipe hence why trying to kill me) $650, New axle upwards of $5000 (we were lucky it was still able to be bent back in place so only $2700 with strengthening plate), front bumper $600 (we managed to source a Chinese bull bar for $450), and a team at the dealership who was zero help. Now I'll admit parts on cars are getting more expensive now days, with the LED lights of Landcruiser Sahara being $5000, but considering that this jeep was approximately $35 000 new, it appeals to younger people, who get stuffed over whenever something breaks.

Also your a bit quick jumping to conclusions, we got the car running even though some of the bolts would not fit a metric or imperial spanner. Yes I will admit being a bad mechanic doesn't make a car shit, but when good mechanics call them shit, I now know why...


Really? So you crashed a completely different model jeep to mine and it suffered damage so that makes my car shit? Does a captiva make commodore's shit?
Just a hint, my fuel pump is in the tank so fuck knows what model you are talking about

I'm sorry if I offended you, it was not *entirely* my intention, I merely wanted you to realise that no car is perfect (except for a 90s unkillable hilux), it's obvious you like it very much. :oops:

Now that, that is cleared up a little a might give a little helpful information. In the earlier 07 model wrangler, dust and dirt starts to build up behind the two panels at the bottom right and left of the wind screen. After driving for a while the vibrations will cause it to eat away at the panel, leaving you a well hidden rust hole in a few years time. Unless they've sealed that area off since then.

Small note the wrangler we were fixing for a friend, had an ARB bull bar on it, and it tore at the weld rather then bend after merely hitting a speed sign (don't know what speed at). So you might want to make sure your bull bar is a little more durable.

Haha I love the way you young people think that you know anything and can inform adults about anything.
Bought my first 4WD in 1986, built my first modded 4WD in 1988, (Chevy powered fj40) and have owned over 30 4wds of pretty much every make since.

Last year alone I drove at least 20000km in low range and my job takes my to the most remote places in Australia. Mostly solo traveling and a long way from any form of road.

I don't need nor have I asked for any advice.

So what's next in the way of mods? As I said before it's a good looking rig! But I just get the feeling you have a lot more lined up for it than you've told us.

Anyway I'm pretty keen on this build thread, keep up the good work shep

Wow jeep hate is strong in this thread. Makes me want a jeep.

Spent some time behind the wheel of jk's and they are a decent rig. Quite simple to work on and upgrade also.

Might start looking at some TJ's! because I am cheap hence why I own a zook.....

TJs seem to be unkillable, fella I work with has owned one since new and all he does to it is change the oil every 2 or 3 years
It's stock on 31" MTRs and goes places I can't get my cruiser to go.

I fitted some ricer headlights and hopefully the new exhaust will get here soon. Also have a soft 3.5" lift in the way that will prob only be 1.5-2" when fitted due to extra fuel tank and winch etc. oh and have a 11000lb runva winch on the way.

I have to work for the next 3-6 weeks without days off so hopefully everything gets here and I can hook in when I finally get a weekend off.

It's pretty hard to drive on dry grass here for a couple of reasons but mainly because the grass is 2 to 6 meters high when
dry and the seeds block radiators very quickly. Also I make sure I burn all the grass out of the places that I like to drive.

3.5" on a car with no barwork or winch. I am guessing it will be 2-2.5".

Did 600km after work last night, sitting on a genuine 130kph it used 68L
Very happy with the car.

It's looking good! How do you find the led headlights?

This thing will be a weapon when your done with it! Are you thinking about lockers at some point? Or just relaying on the winch?

Anyway not too sure why there's so much hate, I like this rig and really want to see how it turns out.

The LED headlights are definitely an improvement over the stock ones. The traction control works very well and I don't
reckon lockers would be all that much of an improvement. Have had it rocking on 2 wheels and it just drives forward with
ease, except for moving you can't feel the traction control working. Much better then our old NGV or the challenger family
car we currently have.

That happy with the jeep that the mrs now wants a srt grand Cherokee 8O

New exhaust sounds awesome.

Good idea. I run stock fogs with LED light bar and it works a treat. I was considering upgrading to LEDs also, but wont for the reasons mentioned above.

Also I don't know how many light-bars you plan on decking the car out with, but consider grabbing one with a yellow lenses if you have multiple.

If I am following a car in dusty conditions I actually find the stock headlights work better than the bar as the "white light" from the LED's pick up all the dust in the air and almost blinds you. Mate has some fancy yellow lensed light-bar from ridged industries or something and claims it makes a big difference in dust.

It's got more then enough light now so will keep the rest of the alternator for the fridge :beer:

We always have a breeze so if ya hang back 200meters there is no dust and passing traffic isn't a issue for long.

Ah fair call. yeah what we drive you can't keep a 200 meter gap, if you do the guy lost several dunes away.

Nice jeep mate, had my TJ for 9 years now and it's been very reliable despite what everyone says. Recommend disconnecting the front swaybar offroad if you haven't already, once it's disconnected the jeep suspension works great offroad.

Winch is on, unfortunately my driving lights now don't fit so will need to work something out for night driving.

Went for a bit of a fossick at the Margeret diggings about 150km from home, nice to easily cruise @130kph and use stuff all fuel.

Also started fitting the auxiliary fuel tank, fucking stoked that I managed to weld on the car without setting it on fire like the last time I welded on a car.

For the lights A pillar mounts are very common over here. Maybe something similar to these:

Narh nothing broken, just welded up a new exhaust and started plumbing up the second fuel tank.

I thought about the A pillar mounted lights but I can't stand reflected light from bonnet or aerials. Jeep will end up with a uhf and a vhf radios when I get around to fitting them.

Fixed the lack of lights by stealing the HIDs off my wife's car, hopefully she doesn't notice haha

This is looking good! I love my km2s, they are really grippy, touch noisy on the tar but nothing like the old trepadores I used to run

The KM2s are the quitest muddies I have tried, it had some sort of Chinese MUDs in it when I bought it and they were absolutely shit to drive on.
