Welcome to AZ.

The 2001 will probably have the older style G13B engine. This engine is prone to leaky valve stem seals which will cause it blow smoke on a cold start. They also can have intermittent crank angle sensor which may cause the engine to cut momentarily or stall at random times. Check the back of the head for leaking oil around the sensor housing. This may be part of the problem and can also soak the clutch in oil if it is leaking badly.
Check that the timing belt has been changed around 100,000km and prepare to do it again at 200k.

Steering wobble is the biggest complaint Jimny owners have so check the steering feel at about 80km/h. It is not the end of the world as it can be fixed if you or your mechanic understands the problem properly.
Check the shock mounts on the axle housings for cracking.
Keep an ear out for wheel bearing noise and diff backlash/noise.

Other than that they are pretty robust cars if it hasn't been thrashed offroad.

Smoke on startup (valve stem seals normally)
Steering shake from around 70km/h upwards. (Kingpin bearing preload)

Other than that, normal second hand car checks.
