I've got a GTi donk for cheap for a R&D engine. I need to get it off the engine stand and onto the shelf (room is tight in the shed!) so I pulled it to bits today.

I discovered that the crank pulley keyway has been flogged out. Has anyone had this repaired before? Who does it? What's it cost?

It's a bit hard to see in the pic but here's what's left of the key

Crank is not pretty. All the bearings and journals looked really good though.

Even more not pretty! Must have been stored outside with no plugs!

It was a bastard to get number 4 piston out. Might need a hone now I think

I wouldn't bother trying to get the existing keyway repaired, I'd just get a new one cut 180 degrees opposite the original. Then remark the pulley or just use the flywheel timing marks.
Any GOOD engineering shop should be able to do it.. Turnweld at Kunda Park can but I don't know of any in Brisbane off the top of my head.

Greg once talked of broaching a new keyway in crank and pulley at 180 over, but I am sure its a straight forward repair for a mob setup to do it

It looks like it might be cheaper to get another crank. I've been quoted $175 so far.
