Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Firenza mud tyres.

Got quoted today $860 fitted and balanced for 30" Firenza MT383's and 15x7 Steelies.

Seems to be the best price I can find, even cheaper then online actually.
They look quite beefy.

Any ideas?

Gday mate I'm in wa I have a tyre business that's cheaper than I could buy them not that I do firenza brand and not to mention I sell csa steel rims in 15" for 88$ ea u can get cheaper rims but they tend to crack around stud holes if u have the extra coin make sure u get the 10 ply if they do them u will thank yourself when u let them down and have the protection for your sidewalls hope this helps cheers matt

I couldn't think of anything worse than a 10 ply tyre on a Sierra.

If ur running shit Chinese tyres then yes they are cheap for a reason can run the Toyo at2 at 32-36psi lovely quiet comfy tyre or a bf ko2 same result if ur running muddies won't matter what vehicle it's on they will be rough ride

32-36psi? A Sierra is placarded at 20psi, and that was based on a very low load rated tyre.

A 10 ply tyre is far too heavy and stiff to work on a Sierra. They'll fight you on and especially off road.

Yeah for the original road tyres hwy pattern much better technology now days in tyre development if u buy good quallity

No doubt, but 10ply tyres at 36psi on a Sierra will kill you and work crap on and off road! What you are saying may be true for 2-3 ton 4x4's, but not a little Suzuki

Indeed, it is a very cheap price and it's honestly the best I've found. As much as I would love to fork out 250-300 a tyre for a more well known set of Muddies, my budget won't let me (we're zook owners right?) my car currently has Nankang FT-7's (A/T) and for a cheap Chinese tyre, they go pretty damn well!

So for $150 a tyre (fitted and balanced) , I'm willing to take a risk with the Firenza's. I believe they normally charge $75 for the rims, but do a special package if you buy tyres and rims.

This is what they look like; they don't appear to have sidewall bitters, but my local terrain doesn't really call for it anyways

Yeah they look smart mate bloody bargain cuts yes the Toyo prob mid 300$ and ko2 would be in the 400$ mark somwhere

Considering that zook owners search far and wide for soft-sidewalled tyres that will handle low pressures well, I am with Steve on this one: 10 ply and 36psi sounds like a nightmare.

Yes its funny how "tyre experts" don't ever take car weight into consideration. The fact most tyres fitted to a sierra large or standard don't even bulge when at 20psi says alot!
My recent tyre purchase of maxxis all terrains for the grand vitara were pumped up to 40psi by the tyre store, my tyre placard says 26psi. Considering the all terrains have a LT construction the sidewalls are stiff as fuck compared to a standard issue road going tyre! To me it just shows that they're robots and dont care! Unless your going back for warranty issues then its all about the pressures,

Check the offset on the 15x7's - stock rims are 5.5" with 0 offset (139.7mm wide with 69.85mm inside the hub) - a 15x7 is 177.8mm wide, so you'll want some offset to account for that extra 19mm.

^^ Cheers Alien, it is definitely something I asked about. It is 15x7's with a -13 offset. So more then enough to clear it on a NT.

Seems no-one has anything BAD to say about it. So I'll go ahead and get them.

And if anyone is interested, the prices were through "All Jap Imports" in Virginia north Brissie.

Nobody said anything about them at all from what I read.
I'm sure they'll do fine. Sierra's aren't tyre sensitive.

^^ that's it. I've always been a firm believer of no news is good news. Usually there's 10 people willing to hate on something compared to the 1 who has something good to say. So no haters is good.

So it was a tad cheaper. Was actually $210 a corner fitted and balanced. So 840 in total.

No idea on compounds, but that designed is a rather tied and tested design that works. Would be good to see some side lugs though. Worth a go

In a tyre experts defense, they would have many patrol and landcruiser guys coming back with feedback that they would take on board and repeat later on. They would also have the tyre reps coming in and pissing in their ear about pressures.

So old mate tyre expert hears 10 customers with 3 ton 4x4's come in and rave about how tyre x didn't get any punctures on his trip to dingo whoop whoop but last time he got 3 punctures with a different brand, old mate tyre expert is going to push that brand and the pressures those customers/tyre rep suggested as he wants happy customers.

Rockman500, take the information this thread has said and use it to better your business. We all learn something new everyday. the major issues you will have with high loaded tyres on a smaller 4x4 are:
terrible footprint
very harsh ride, will be very bouncy as the tyres have less flex
offroad they wont pinch or grip well

Strength wise there is no real benefit as sierra, vitara, and jimny tyres dont really puncture due to the light weight of the car.

There is a reason BFG only run 6 ply's in their 215/75r15 ko2 AT...........it's because its a popular size for the jimny and other light weight 4x4's.

I would never run cheap shit on any of my trucks work ute or any family members car if fuckwit puts shifty maxis on prob he is retarded u can run good quality 10 ply down to minimal pressure u caint with a 800$ tyre and wheel package and hope to get the same result I have a 12 ton 4x4 truck run the 385s down to 15 psi on beach goes any ware put 110 psi in for road rough as shit but that's what happens when u have a truck run any muddy down low on pressure on road magic ride shit fuel economy get hot ruin logtivity of the tyre not to mention noisy as hell but as I said originally u cudnt go wrong with that price can nearly buy 3 sets for the price of one kor3y101 just check with dealer of stock don't want find they brought a container at a good price u ruin one and caint get a replacement end up with 3 wheels in ya shed cheers

Just stop posting on this topic Rockman. I don't care what your business is or how much you think you know, you are wrong about tyre choice and pressure for Sierra's.

Just sit back a bit, read some threads, talk to some Sierra drivers, get a feel for the lay of the land. You're making yourself sound ignorant.

My 6ply load range C bfg's drive better on road at 17 psi than at 20.
10 ply tyres are the wrong tyre for a Sierra. 32 psi is the wrong pressure for a Sierra.
You clearly have no experience with Sierra's.

Just scrap them and run a set of 10ply load range E toyo tyres, you will thank yourself. You might even be able to run as low as 15psi....

The Sierra curb weight is between 850KG and 975KG

firenza 30x9.5R15 MT-383 has a load index of 104, which is 900kg (x4=3600kg)
(101 if you run duals, but somehow, I doubt it)

A 10ply tyre (load range E) has a max load of 1215kg (x4= 4860kg)
(10 ply E tyres vary between 1215 and 1340kg laod, so I went for lowest)


Start at 22psi, then do a 4psi test.

I wonder - if the tyre's max pressure is 45psi at full load, then a sierra putting 1/4 weight over 4 tyres, does that mean 11psi is likely closer to the correct pressure to run them at? =)

The old school flat fender jeep guys (Pewe, Nylund, etc) never used to exceed 10 psi on road running 33-36" tyres on their relatively light flatties.

to add to what Steve is saying, i ran between 15 and 18 psi in my 35's on the road. and this was harsh as my car was quite light

I'm not gonne get in to THAT debate..
However, on my 94 R22 powered 2wd Hilux workute, I ran a 215/75R15 (101 L.I.) tyre, with a TripleM aluminium tray, no sides most of the time.
In other words, really really light on the back axle.
I experimented with pressures at 25 psi in the rear (45psi front) tryes..
The ride, strike that, the handling went way down. It felt horrible to drive, but at 30-35, great. And 65psi if I loaded her up.
