Hey guys I'm looking at upgrading my suspension and I am after an opinion or two.

I am currently running tough dog springs and shocks and I'm over the rough ride.

My research on here has me believing that old man emu offer the softest ride, but dobinson get mentioned regularly and are highly recommended also. I can't find any information on spring rates for Jimnys, but really I don't know anything about shock absorbers and how they match or interact with springs anyhow?. Maybe I'm over thinking this purchase?

I'm no rock crawler, but I get in the bush regularly with the kids, stockton beach fishing and occasionally will tow my camper trailer. I will probably use airbags I have in storage from my previous Jimny for towing.

My youngest girl still falls asleep in the car, so she doesn't care but i know I can get a much better ride.

What would you do?

I used the ultimate 4x4 shocks from eBay and was quite happy with the ride. I had sway bar removed too.

My old man emu springs sagged on the drivers side.

Jimny tows fine in my opinion. If you need airbags you are towing too much weight though

Yep I was towing too much, 500kg unbraked, but then I put trailer brakes on and made it all legal.

i have king springs with the ebay ultraking shocks & the ride is really rough, so steer clear of them, not sure if the fault is the shocks or springs, but most likely the shocks i have.

what Lift have you got? put your stock front springs in the rear with a 20mm spacer on the RHS.

I didn't do the lift, I bought the car as is.

But, at least 2 inch in the rear, maybe 1 at the front? definitely much higher at the back. No offset bushing.

It feels like the excess height in the back makes towing very strange, it seems to lift the front up and makes the steering very vague and light, and unpredictable.

Without a trailer, cornering at speed on long bends has the same vague feeling.

I have done plenty of km in my last Jimny, both towing and not, with standard springs with airbags in the back and this tough dog set up do not inspire confidence at all.

does it have a bull bar ? mine was very low in the front even with a 2" lift due to the weight of the bull bar, corrected it with 25mm spring spacers.

I got my 2inch efs from Dank aswell. I have the HD springs all round which are from memory rated at 70kg constant load up front and 160kg constant load in the rear. sits perfectly with my camper trailer and gear in the back

I have a full set of brand new 40mm lift King springs if you want them. I bought and installed them but never drove on them as the engine was out of the car at that time. They have been sitting in the garage ever since, waiting for another Jimny!
Let me know if you're interested.
