Yeah, that's promising. See what a full tank after the service is like - hopefully you'll knock it down a bit again.

I'm yet to do a proper, full city economy test, but yes it is an improvement, then again I was probably recording that reading incorrectly. Although economy is still worse than the majority. Yet to check the cat though.

I am not planning on 4wding any time sooon (although i am usually quite spontaneous), so hopefully i will do a proper test this round. I also threw in an injector cleaning for this tank. My dream number is greater than 400km to the tank

So, I went to the mechanic today to get them To check my Catalytic Converter, and do a compression test. I Literally asked them, "could you do a cat test, a compression test, and take it for a spin to see if you think it is running rich". When i go to pick it up, he said he couldn't open the Cat converter up because there was too many bends? and he said the only way to see inside would have been to cut it open, and he also said he did not feel like the compression test was necessary (why he couldn't tell me that at the start, i don't know). Although, he did say the cars exhaust was flowing okay, and sounded fine, and he said he thought the car ran quite smooth.
So all in all, I paid $90 for him to not do either of the things I asked for, and tell me there is nothing I can do to help my economy apart from a whole new exhaust and/or Physically cleaning my injectors... First time I have been to a mechanic, not the best experience.

Have done a full tank again, this time it was purely urban driving, no 4wding and no highway driving. I also put an injector cleaning through it on this tank. I did 306km in 50 Litres. So if i take into count the tyres (5% difference), my actual economy was 15.6L/100km (321km/50L). That is driving very economical. I can bare with that, but it is not ideal. Question for Atari, do you drive on highways much, or is your economy based on urban driving? Because you have awesome economy. I probably could reach over 400 in 50L if i drove highway.

Gus's work commute would be all 60km zones?

atari4x4 wrote: yeah, all urban & a heap of traffic lights but not a great deal of traffic. Ahh okay. So pretty much like me. Although, difference with me is I ONLY ever do tiny trips on a cold engine. My whole week (not including weekends) would usually consist of like 30 - 40 minutes driving all up. I Only drive it during the week when I go to gym, which is a 3 minute drive once a day, and when i go to work which is a 5 minutes drive twice a week. Not sure if that affects fuel too much - driving on a cold engine all the time.

i feel sorry for your engine, running it cold is certainly not doing it any favours and you will prob find that after a while it will start to smoke as the bores will glaze. If gym is so close why not just run there?? take it for a run on the hwy and you will prob find it a lot better.

I do run sometime, but I go late at night and I just don't have the extra 30 mins to spare (I am a busy man ). I go 4WDing quite often which does consists of highway driving, It does okay, economy wise on the highway. I couldn't give you exact numbers, but urban driving I get about 120km when it is on the half way line. And highway driving I get about 170 on the half way line

Your car would be running on the choke/cold start fuel map & would be running rich the whole time.

Suppose that explains the terrible economy when I don't go highway driving or 4wding. Mind you, still pretty terrible non-urban, but bearable. Cheers. larry wrote: if your only driving half an hour a week how come your so worried about economy? Couple of reasons, when I do driving it properly (weekends or holidays) I drive it a fair bit, usually highway driving, 4wding, driving between friends houses and etc, so for these trips I worry about economy. Secondly, I like working on my car and improving it, and i suppose fixing/improving my economy is just one of those things I would like to get done, I am not so worried that I would sell my car over it, nor do i even think about how much fuel I am going to use when I go somewhere. It is simply something I would like to make right. If you get me hahah alexxx wrote: buy a push bike!!

Little confused. Are you saying driving on a cold engine isn't bad for you economy/engine?

Good news fellas. I just finished my second tank of Premium, I am now onto my third. My first tank gave me about 14.4L/100k (inc. tyres) which I thought was really good. But my second tank.... i'll let the pics speak. And this is what my speedo said when I filled up First time I have seen it hit '4xx' Calculated it, including tyres that is 10.9L/100k and that is MOSTLY urban, probably 50km is highway, so worst case scenario I am getting about 12L/100k So stoked. Let's just hope the premium stops making my car run rough
