Ok I'm following, thought it was more work involved, So I just swap my crown wheel and pinion with darkhorses diff internals, and do a RHS CV conversion? http://auszookers.com/forum/download/file.php?id=4999If I get this turned up on a lathe and another 26 spline front axle cut down to the dimensions listed to make a stubby then I should be sweet right? (Yes I know stupid questions galore)

yeah if you don't want a locker & want to run 26 spline, but you'll still need the LHS axle.
there is a bit more to it than just getting the machining done.

So I've ordered a 26 spline air locker rd208, 26 spline drive shafts 1 RHS and left hand side for now, Can't afford the cost of getting the machining done, so when I can, I'll get it machined up and get the bearing and required parts, The spare is 26 spline diff,

you don't need a LHS CV, you need the LHS 26 spline inner axle

I GET IT NOW!!!!! Finally understand most of the jargon of what I need, hahahahahaha, I'm so slow on the uptake So in correction, I've ordered the 26 spline AirLocker, gv steel front diff, with the third member mount, I'll use the internals from the spare diff(26 spline) my 5.12 crown wheel and pinion, get another LHS axle and cut it down etc to suit the RHS, using that cad drawing from here http://auszookers.com/forum/download/file.php?id=4999 , get that machined up with a bearing to suit and attach it to the housing Anything else I need to be aware of/need?

you don't need the internals "centre" from the darky's diff if you putting in a 26 spline airlocker in, the locker replaces this bit: edit: pic stolen from gwagens post below that probably explains it better. Gwagensteve wrote: I'll just outline the individual parts so it's clear what we are talking about. THIS is a diff centre: THIS is a carrier: This is a gear set The whole lot together is generally called a "third member" (unless you are royce, I have no idea what he calls it ) Yes, third member is an American term but at least it isn't a double up calling an assembly by the name of an individual component. So this is a third member OK. So now that's clear, Steve.

So then I just need my 5.12 gear set, and axles from a 26 spline

In regards to doing the passenger side cv conversion In this picture is my 22 spline front diff pieces. The arrow is pointing to the passenger side axle, What I Need to do?: is obtain 2 spline passenger side axles and cut one down to suit the drivers side (anybody have a correct length measurement?) and support it with suzukis nylon bush and axle seal, then obtain 2 LHS driveshafts and use on both the passenger and drivers side? What is the advantage of 26 spline over 22 spline? It is seeming like it is going to be a pain in the ass tracking down parts if something breaks. All my 22 spline stuff is in fine condition(except the obvious) have I outlined above what needs to be done?

Have a read through the previous stuff in this thread, and also this viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6953The LHS conversion is to make the cvs easier to change when you kill one coz it makes it a 3 bolt job rather than entire front end job. Also it means you only need to carry the one spare. It's worth sussing out the right parts do it right the first time. pm bruce on here for the nylon bush way cheaper than suzuki and express post memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=6"What is the advantage of 26 spline over 22 spline? " atari4x4 wrote: So the 26 spline is chunkyer, thicker, stronger, distributes the force over a larger area making it way better than the 22 spline. Same with the 12 bolt rear over the 10 bolt its got 20% more bolts = more ponies being sent to the ground rather than into breaking your drive train. atari4x4 wrote: :
26 spline = stonger as the axle size in the diff are larger 12bolt = stronger as they have a steaking bolt to help stop the pinion walking.

Progress Update, i have the air locker fitted to the steel housing. and it is ready to go back together, now the only problem is i cant seeem to find a 26 spline drive shaft for the drivers side. the wreckers here in Canberra have got nothing.
