I am about to replace the kingpin bearings on my drivers side swivel pin housing as the hub ingested some water a while ago and found rust all through the bearings. I have some land rover swivel pin housing grease (like a very fluidy molybond grease), but i see alot of 4wd workshops using heavy duty bearing grease instead. this apeals to me as it is far less likely to leak however i am unsure if this approach will have a negative effect on my suzuki (a wt leafy).
Back in the day old LR's and Toyota's used Self Levelling grease in the swivel hubs to lube the bearings and CV. Self levelling grease is very liquid and unless all the seals are perfect will leak out, LMM grease on the other hand is quite stiff and won't leak out while most likely giving better lubrication.
i would use lmm on both cv and king pin bearings , castrol product data says that you shouldnt mix the 2 greases because they are a soap based lubricant.
I've always used HTB in wheel and kingpin bearings. Even after several thousand Km's and lots of water ingress there is little or no cross contamination when dis assembled.
