My mrs has a Swift Sport 07, i like driving it, pretty light on the fuel, likes to go around corners fast. seats are comfy, ride is a bit rough... if i was being picky... i think the newer models come with cruise control which is nice...
revs a bit high at 100 ... but still maintains pretty good fuel economy.

we've owned it since new and nothing has gone wrong with it... will happily keep its for at least another 5 - 6 years

They are the female P plater car of choice I see so many around. I don't know about buying a car from a female. Our receptionist at work hadnt had her car serviced or the oil changed in 2 years!!!!!!

My mate went and test drove a swift for his girlfriend that had 120,000km on it and was an '08 model and automatic. He reckoned the gearbox whined but apparently felt like it had been driven very hard its whole life. Its always interesting test driving a car with a few more kms than what you are looking at to see how they hold up over time.

Some of you guys commenting seem to be assuming that a swift sport is just another swift. Its not. There are MANY differences that reflect the higher price tag.

Bigger engine, with more power/ torque, and better delivery IMO.
Gearbox is different, and shifts alot nicer than the base model swifts.
The use of 5 stud hubs reduces deflection at the wheel, giving better handling.
The brakes are convincingly better, with disc brake rear end.
seats are 1000% more comfortable.
suspension is firmer, delivering better handling, but not so firm that its uncomfortable to drive for several hours at a time.
EDIT: Rear beam axle is heaps chunkier, which makes for a far better drive in the twisty stuff.

if I had to find something to complain about, it would be the lack of a spare tyre, and the fly-by-wire throttle. But niether of these things are a big issue IMO.

Own an i30 (work car)

Also this comment has contributed nothing to this thread.

Had my Swift Sport from new (Sept 08) until April last year. I sold it to buy a bike, and regretted it a bit... They are an absolutely fantastic car. Comfy, fun, and I reckon up there amongst the best looking hatchback around.

Still, I've got a Liberty GT now, so I'm even happier :)

How is the suzuki sport any different to the normal suzuki swift?

When i was in NZ in 2012 we hired a brand new suzuki swift (blue, auto, ~5,000km on it). not sure if it was a sport, had mag wheels?

appart from the auto sucking out all the power of the engine, i thought it was possibly one of the greatest cars i had driven in its price/category bracket.

And being in NZ, i spent days after days traveling on windy windy roads. Much to my wifes dissapproval i had the tyres making...er...noises a number of times around corners, and it was a great handling car. dig it into the hairpins and it just comes back asking for more.

I coudlnt fault it to be honest, interiour plastic a little 'cheap' but its a cheap car. much better than the corolla interiour!

Boot was a little small. but it did fit 2 suit cases side by side (nothing else though!)

For the current shape. its a 100kw motor, front seats, paddle shift auto, body kit, disk rear (although I think the model below has disk rear as well)

Thats all I can remember. The power difference is very noticeable.

er.....sure.

either way if the normal swift is as good as i thought it was, then the sport mustbe alot better again.

Yep not in the same league, the earlier sport never had auto in them. I think current shape has a 6 speed box, not sure if its got an auto option though. The sport comes with 16" mags, non sport only 15" steel rims or mags.

I think the NEW sport comes with 17's now. The 'old' one had 17's in europe.

I liked taking the older swift sport for a test drive, had a very Euro feeling about it. Sadly not allowed to get one :( Compared the GLX to sport, sport was my pick. One thing i liked i could sit in the back and had leg room, surprisingly roomy for a small car. The new one is Nice, 7speed auto :P

Is it true they have Electronic assisted steering?

1.6L Motor
Manual 6 speed
Auto 7Speed CVT

Standard
1.4L
5Speed Manual
4speed auto

There is also the RE2 which i think is standard just with different styling and larger alloy wheels.

I have a Baleno GTX brought new.

Would always go for a sport model.

My GTX has the larger engine, 4 wheel disc, Recaro Seats, etc.

I would trade up to the Sport, hopefully they bring out a 2 door.
