I have the opportunity to buy myself a pretty tidy / stock 1999 g13bb jimny (eek i vowed never to buy one but its to tie me over while my project gets finished) . It has no modifications and would come with 12 months rego . the motor is sound , the original motor was replaced a year or two ago with a full reco motor / new clutch etc . It has passed a stringent roadworthy certificate.

What should i pay for the vehicle? I have been given a price but it seems a bit high to me , but given the condition of the motor and car in general it may not be too far off the mark. it also has aircon and power steering. private seller.

any thoughts or input appreciated.

Peter , i work on them day in and day out for the last 12 years , i dont buy and sell them , so the value of them i have no idea , ask me any spec of the engine etc , and im your man.

Steve redbook wants you to pay $22 for an evaluation these days , i found another site that gives a free valuation and it says up to $7000 from a dealer or $5500 from a private seller ... lets just say this is on the high end of that price from a dealer.

I was sort of curious as to what jimny owners have paid for theirs in the past.

Steve one other thing to consider is im going to be trading off long service leave for this car (yeah fuck me ive been there that long ) he's asking absolute top dollar so if i can bring a case forward that this vehicle is only worth X amount on the current market will work in my favour .

Best you can do is find as many examples of similar cars for sale as possible, and make your case based on condition, mileage etc.

They seem to be holding their value quite well. I think they should be 2.5g - 5g for how old they are and how many k's alot of them have.
How ever they seen to sell for 4g - 7g regularly.

ive seen receipts for 5 grand over the last year for this car . regardless of the money spent i fail to see how an unmodified stock jimny can fetch more than 6 grand , yet it will come with 12 months rego which is worth ~$700 . so is it worth the $6500 asking price ?

Just take a survey on what you find on Carsales.com.au, remove about %10 for your average price haggling, and see how it compares.

Gotta wonder why a 14yr old car needs a new engine if its got no mods.

Prices are all over the shop. There is no consistancy at all. Personally I think that $6500 is too much, but you are the one handing the cash over.

I found this issue when i bought my jimny! there was no clear price of what they were worth! so i took each one on face value and bought the one i thought to be the best.
i paid $6500 for mine and was in pretty similar condition to the one your speaking of (no rebuild tho), but with 2inch lift and tires and a few other goodies.

Contact your Insurance Co for a quote, and ask them what the values are for a stock 1999 Jimny with xxxkms, no mods or accessories.

Valuation Prices
* Private Price Guide $3,200 - $4,900
* Trade In Price Guide $1,200 - $2,900
* Average Km 210,000 - 350,000
* Price When New $18,750*

maybe they charge for a valuation and VIN lookup, but the price guide is what you were after right..? You just have to drill down into the exact model and the prices are there.

I swear they are going up in value though, a year ago a regularly saw them for around the $4k mark now most of them seem around 6K for a 99-2001.

Bloody hell. Jimnys are way over priced...... You can buy a good GV for that money and a gv is alot more car.

I payed $5k for my 2000 V6 gv. Bohuler payed $5.5k for his J20 GV....... the price of a good GV is between $4-10K
