Hey,
I got some mk3 gti seats cheap yesterday. Ive got a few questions about fitting them. On my searchs it seems that a few have just redrilled the seirra mounts and they go in.
However these must be different model seats to mine. the factory swift mounts are a lot wider (1'-2') then the seirra mounts The recliner part mounts to this swift mount in order for it to work. Therfore i have to somehow use the sierra mounts under the swift seats (where there are holes but no captive nuts) and weld on a couple of small brackets to hold the recliner bit? The opposite side (seat belt side, without the recliner bit) it seems i can just red drill the sierra mounts to suit the m12 nuts on the gti seats.
Anyone got these seats in with some pics of mounting etc?
Cheers

i had the better mk3 gti seats out of the latest model. my sierra rails went straight on the inner holes and they bolted in perfectly. look through my threads in tech there should be something a few pages back

i have fitted these using the gti seat rails, but the way i did it wouldn't be legal. I can't remember what i did, i'd have to look at the car when i get some time, and daylight.

you might need to wait a bit longer, not everyone lives on here

I would get a nut, some wire and a way to tack weld em together and fish it into place to get a bolt onto it, but then I am overly patient with things like that

The only problem is on the side with the recliner bit there are no captive nuts on the inner holes.

Yer that was what i was thinking as a last resort. The only thing is the recliner bit needs to be held in place to. But a couple of brackets to the sierra rails would probaly fix that.

hey guys
a little off topic.
What other seats besides swift gti seats fit as a decent replacement in a sierra? I broke the recliner on my factory job trying to get the bastard to sit upright
so what have we all used and how hard was the install?
cheers andrew

That would be my suggestion too. I think mine had the captive nuts in there already :? Just trying to remember.......

Yep well ive decided ill either do the wire trick, or drill a hole ~20mm diameter on the side where the nut needs to be so i can slip in a spanner. ill weld some tabs across to hold the recliner bit. Ill chuck some pics up when done.

That side bolt for the recliner, there is enough flat metal on the side of the seat to just drill straight through the side and put a bolt in it.

Ok im mostly finished. Ive just got to take the rails off again, clean, paint then grease. The drivers side has a slight rip which ill get stitched up and then try clean up the fabric. But other then that they are a pretty good fit for the zook. I had to weld tabs onto the drivers side to hold down the recliner bit (in pics) and also drill new holes for the passenger side rails, but only one end. I had to get a pack of 8 and 6mm bolts to do the job, and some bits of flat bar. The recliner on the passenger side is held to the rail by some small angle brackets and bolts. To get to the 1 bolt on each seat that couldnt be reached i welded some wire onto the top of a bolt and slid in up through the hole.

Ok ive finished them and im pretty happy with them. But i just took them out again as ive got to get it regoed. This is the passenger side. The red circles show the brackets holding the recliner bit and the blue circle shows where new holes need to be drilled, and one on the other side the same.

Mods, feel free to move this to the 'fabrication section'

Great write up mate. I know its an old thread but lots of blokes been asking about this before. Might as well give it a bump. Might be good if mods moved it to tech thread and changed subject,.

What i did was just butcher apart the gti slider then just bolted the base of it to the seat to support tilt crap instead of the L brackets as pictured. The plastic trim hides it anyways.

Drilled only the sliders for the drivers side, Had to drill both seat and rails on passenger side. I am still yet to nut and bolt the unreachable side and i dont have a welder to try the wire trick.
