Hey guys,

Could find to much about this when i searched around.

So.. I have been offered a Gemini diesel engine with 160,000kms for $200 with everything
I cant find must about a Gemini diesel engine in vitara, so was wondering if anyone has done it? and is it worth it?
All i found some info about doing it in a sierra, and it being a bit heavy, but nothing on a vitara.
My G16B currently has 280,000kms on it, and will need a new heart soon,

Just wondering if this would be an option to consider.

Cheers,

Sam

Wow, that's going to be like taking a sleeping pill after a G16B

G16B - 65Kw, 125Nm or so.
Gemini Diesel: 39Kw, 105Nm

That's the first problem.

The second would be the gearbox. In sierras the divorced transfer case means a gemini/jackeroo whatever gearbox can be used. Because your gearbox is mated to the transfer, you'd need a very funky adapter, or a sierra transfer, or a whole early rodeo/jackeroo gearbox/transfer assuming the front diff drop is on the correct side.

All up quite a lot of work for a pretty poor outcome I think.

If you really want a diesel vitara, the best option might be to use an acme adapter and a volkswagen TDI motor. I think completed it would owe you quite a lot of money though, and without tuning they still don't really match a G16B for power, although torque is better (but not by as much as you'd think)

What about sump clearance on front diff? I'd assume there may be issues there too

I would have thought so, yes.

Apparently the TDI VW motors do fit in vitaras though.

There were factory vitara diesels in other markets, using either the Mazda RF hand grenade or a peugeot diesel (I think). Getting one into the country would be hard though. NZ generally had the hand grenade, and they apparently go OK, but I think the whole cost v benefits thing doesn't stack up.

On a related note. I have been offered a Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C diesel for a reasonable price. Can i fit it to my LJ?
Has anyone done similar with a plainly unrealistic motor?

There are a few Diesel Vitaras here. I think they have the Peugeot motor by the smell of them.
