just got my daughter a Sierra and the front seats need replacing, they are completly worn out, had a quote of about $210 per seat to refurb, just wonderd if there were any seats I could pick up from the wreckers that will fit without to much modifying.

I fitted Suzuki Swift seats to my Sierra. Cost me $200 for a complete set (including rear). They are as close to a bolt in fit as you will get.

Swift are the nicest seats i've sat in (in a sierra). I put them in my first one and this time I went autotechnica's and I'm regretting it already after driving it the past 2 days.

Unless your body is really suited for the "race bucket seats", i'd highly recommend against them (unless they're of good quality or factory optioned buckets)

So much truth here.

Swift GTi seats are ok I guess, iirc the seats in the photo above are Baleno GTX seats which are better constructed in my opinion, and fit well. I've also seen Mazda 323 astina sp seats in a Sierra and they were nice.

I think the vast majority of cheap reclining "race" seats (they are no such thing) are rubbish.

I agree here, I had a bloke buy my old zook ute shell and he was really excited about a pair of those seats, he pulled one off the ute apparently they were new they looked it, but they were crap, they had no padding it felt as if I was sitting on a towel on a bare seat and there didn't seem to be any seat adjustments.

Agreed on the mazda seats I have sat in a set of them before, very comfy. It is very hard to find them with side bolsters that arent torn up.

These a from a Mazda BG Astina SP hatch which is about 1988-1994



I have N13 Pulsar seats in my zook. The sierra rails bolt straight on I just had to enlarge the holes slightly on the rails. Very easy install. Decent side bolslters so they sort of 'hug' you. They were $40 each from the wreckers, they are very common and seem to last pretty well.

Other option is go to the u-pull-it wreckers and just sit in a bunch of seats and find something comfy and work out how to fit it.

Swift GTi seats are very comfy and one of the easiest to 'modify' to suit a sierra (so long as it't not a coily - post 96 model)

You will just need to drill 2 new holes and elongate the ones that are already there....pretty much a bolt in job

went to the wreckers, they wanted $400 for a pair of GTI seats, looked at Autotechnicas $300 for a pair, are the really that bad? Has any one tried TF Rodeo seats

They are terrible.
I bought mine, and it had autotechnica seats in it. They were junk.
I installed baleno seats ($80 the pair).

Wrecker economics are rarely wrong. Yes, a $200 second hand GTi seat is actually better than a new $150 autotechinca pile.

As for rodeo- maybe they would work, maybe not. There are enough options on here that don't require too much work that you'd need a food reason to start from scratch with a seat that hasn't been mentioned.

I used barina seats. (same model as the swift)
i used the sierra rails and welded them to base of swift seat.
for $30 im not complaining. in fact id go as far to say thats the best value money purchase i made since i bought the sierra.

My stock seats now have wire poking out of them, so I have to pad them with towels to stop some serious body part damage.

I have found some baleno seats like the swift ones above. My guess would be they are the exact same but just want to double check. I'm just looking to see if these will fit a sierra with minimal stress

Mine has Honda CRX seats in it. They are very nice to sit in and they hug you in place nice.

I understand CRX seats are excellent, but it can be hard to find them in good condition as they are lightly constructed and wear quickly with heavy (i.e western) people sitting in them. Same goes for MX-5 seats, moreso because they are a convertible and tend to get more sun damage.

PS I have now seen that late GTi seats are pretty much the same as Baleno GTX seats. IMHO they are much better built than early GTi seats - they feel much more robust.

Now I feel like an ass for stopping at $50 for a full gti interior on a recent auction as the competition bidding against it was a tool when I tried to buy stuff off him.... Yes I am part Scottish - hence the 413 purchase

When fitting seats do you use the standard rails or the rails that come with the seat??

I have the baleno glx seat (Look the same as GTI seats) that I mentioned above and bolted the sierra rails to it but when I tried to fit them to the car they are sitting to wide for the standard mounting holes

does any one know if the sierra seat mounts changed much through the series? i have an 81 model and have found that most seats have the same problems as gvzookdriver.

I'm pretty sure they remained the same. I have n13 pulsar seats which were slightly wider than the standard mounts with the Sierra rails. Mine weren't as far out as gvzookdrivers. I only had to drill 2 holes about 20mm further out on the drivers side and managed to get the passenger side to fit with no mods.

@ GVZook, get some 20 - 30 flat maybe 10 - 12 thick you need to make up a square frame... you can drill n tap or countersink it etc but you end up with a set of bolts that point up to bolt into the seat spacing and a set facing down to align with the orig seat rail wldth / bolt to both and hey presto. The reason I mention 10+mm is to countersink opposite's to clear seat movement or drill n tap and weld the head of some HT studding into the "square" also check legality in your highly legislated country. Hope this helps

Drivers side is the same on all leaf spring cars.

Passenger side has a different on a 1.0 litre, but it's easy to drill new holes in the floor to run 1.3 runners. 1.3 seats bolt to the 1.0 tilt mechanism regardless.

Thanks mate I have worked it all out just needed to take a step back breathe n measure a few things and now it all fits
