I'm looking to put marine carpet down in the whole car, I sent a message to a carpet store on eBay ad they told me I need to put underlay down first. Is there a real need to do this, I just want to ability to take the carpet out and hose it down web It gets really dirty

Depends how much sound and heat shielding you want out of the carpet. Proper marine carpet has a poly backing, but it's fairly thin. Compare it to the amount of felt under most factory auto carpet.

That said - the more layers of stuff you put down the more it can trap dirt, water etc and the more effort it will be to remove to hose out.

Thought about a spray on body deadener or ute liner type product?

I ripped out all that crappy factory vinyl today and decided to just go without and leave the rubber mats in that I have. Doesn't look to shabby

go to clark rubber and get some of their foam rubber carpet underlay its cheap, good sound deadening. and easily removed and can be washed as its just placed under the carpet and doesnt need to be glued down or any other for of attachment.
