For those that don't have or don't have access to a rattle gun, here is an easy how to remove the transfer case flange guide.

Tools required:
-Small flathead screwdriver
-x2 50mm bolts and nuts
-28mm socket
-breaker bar
-x2 1.5ish metre 25x25 square tube

Step 1:
With the flathead screwdriver unfold the folded edges on the flange nuts.

Step 2:
Place the bolts and nuts through two opposite holes on one of the flanges. Sit one of the lengths of square tube in-between the two bolts and turn the flange until the length of tube lock between the bolts and the ground.

Step 3:
Place 28mm socket onto to breaker bar and slide the other length of tube other the breaker bar handle. Load up a bit of weight onto the bar and place a foot onto the transfer case to keep it steady. Slowly with force use the leverage to crack the seal of the nut. Once you have cracked the seal you wont need the leverage of the extension to undo the nut.

Step 4:

Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the other two nuts and your done.

I didn't need that much leverage when I did my gears 8O. But here is what I did.

Whilst the leverage is not essential it requires minimum effort to crack the seal reducing the chance of injury or damage.

Nice tech. My transfer was pretty bad and rusted/seized. I had to use an oxy and breaker bar for my nuts. Lucky i was rebuilding it anyway with new seals

The biggest problem I had with mine was uncrimping the flange nuts they can be a bitch.
I'd certainly recommend one of these
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/240V-IMPACT- ... 112wt_1333

I bought one before I did my transfer and its paid for itself several times over on both mine and mates cars, used on flywheel bolts, wheels, transfer flanges, pitman arm nut etc.

Best thing is its plug and play literally takes seconds to take a wheel off, no waiting for a compressor to fill.

is that a sierra transfer as it looks like one but they are a 27mm socket

at least mine is,

a 28mm would round the hell out of the nut.

Yes it's a Sierra transfer case, and yes it's a 28mm socket.

if that's the case then they must of changed the size of the nut between years as mine are defiantly 27mm nuts.

1.0 switch and 1.3 run the larger size shaft and nut. , the 1.0 NO SWITCH uses a slightly smaller shaft and obviously smaller nut.

NUTS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE!

There MAYBE differences between 1.3 -1.3.. but haven't found two that have differed as yet.. even the drover and sierra were the same.
