"As to the air locker suit for SJ40 Suzuki, could you kindly get back to me with ARB version." Let me translate the chinglish for you... velly solly, no rocker for 1 riter. You're right though, can't hurt to ask. I'd have them in mine already if they did make them. One day I'll get the chance to do the housings and move the 2 chinasoongs from the shelf under the house to the LJ. Pretty much! And yeah, don't ask, don't get. Semi related topic, the only place I found with a 1520 LockRight didn't actually advertise that they had them. After I'd emailed every single place that mentioned it and getting zip, I started emailing ones that didn't say they had them. Though they said in their book the 1520 they had was for a GV(google comes up with a few results for that too, even though 1520 is obviously for the SJ40, I email LockRight about it and never got a reply ) and they wanted quite a bit for it so I left it. :/ If ARB (or anyone else) were to release a 1l locker tomorrow, I would buy it. I'm sure there's many who would but we just aren't worth the effort apparently. Heck, if someone could do an LSD for a decent price........ Cusco sell Super Carry ones for $1280 + shipping and SJ30/JA71 ones come up second hand on Japanese sites for $900+. If you don't mind me asking, what's you diff housing recipe? 1.3 pumpkin with LJ axles/axle tubes? Modded LJ pumpkin to fit 1.3l centres? Keeping the LJ80 width? Please tell me a full float rear is on the cards? Highway-Star wrote: sideways wrote: I also asked if they do SJ40 lockers (I was certain they don't but it never hurts to ask), I got this reply. "As to the air locker suit for SJ40 Suzuki, could you kindly get back to me with ARB version." As for the 1 Litre/LJ locker scenario.... I tried buying another chinese RD87 the other day... considering I demolished the last locker in the front of the LJ, and the random open centre I threw in lasted 2 trips.... Just note, I buy the chinese one, because its still the old style ARB RD87 which ARB no longer make...... Anyway long story short, bloody thing arrives and they have "updated" their design to the new ARB design....(even though they still call it RD87) Bloody hell, totally useless to me!!! I need the old style one to do what I do with the funky LJ diff, the newer design has issues I haven't figured work around's for... Awwww feck. How dare they modernize and improve their design! Surely there's a proper RD87 sitting on a self somewhere in Aus that they'l give you a discount for? What are the issues? Do the 26 spline side gears swap? Is the OD of the centre the same? Thanks Hayden

Maybe new 26spline 7" air locker ones will work, but I can't confirm. Old RD88 are 100% not useful for side gears in the new design lockers. Also the air supply is now on the crown wheel side, clearance in the LJ housing for the copper line to pass between the housing and crown wheel is tight. It May be viable to run it over the top or underneath; however then one would have to grind massive amount out of the mounting face on the housing to allow fitment of the diff assembly. As it is I have had to grind some mounting face away, and the diff still only goes in and out of the housing in certain positions (otherwise the crown bolts fowl on the mounting face). The new design seems far better, and if I was doing a standard sort of install it would be fine (and I probably would have looked into finding a reliable supplier for a genuine ARB if I figured a way to use this new style first up). Just because of this messing about for the LJ that makes it a bit wrong....

Copper line is a pain but I'm sure we can work with that. They haven't made the OD 100mm by any chance? Thanks Hayden

All this BS with what I thought was a nice elegant solution to the issue of no one making LJ diff locks; has pretty much decided me on the diffs for my next car build though.... hope to be starting on it in the next few months...

Yeah, talking about the same air locker so I am not surprised . I was under the impression the Jimny housing gave more clearance, or could just be because I am running a 3mm crown wheel spacer as well which makes the crown flange effectively chunkier... sideways wrote: Yeah, I know. I have had them both for a few years now, they have never been and issue. I already own them, and I also picked up a 3rd one for a spare. Seems silly stuffing around with the 6.5" diffs for another project when its causing me this much grief currently...

I am probably going to be lazy, and just throw the complete WT's under the car.... But am definitely happy to discuss this with you; and maybe even change plans...lol

Surely Anita deserves proper feng shui? Besides I know you wouldn't move her springs back out.

(I need something to keep me occupied when I'm not wheeling or fixing Anita). I've bodged up a franken diff for the front of Anita out of 2 super carry diff, and about 4 air lockers....lol Hoping it lasts, as Anita needs the awesomeness of centredness!!!

If the long side tube and long axle is removed and replaced with another short side tube and short axle, then the spring perches are nearly spot on for the LJ50 spring spacing, the track width is nearly right, the diff is centred and takes a 1.3 locker and disc brakes! Same as an LJ, ratios are available for the 1.3 in 4.56, 4.875 and 5.125 to match the LJ front, but I suppose the same differences would also apply between an LJ and WT front housing too?

From memory the front diff is more offset to the drivers side and the short side is effectively shorter than the rear... Wouldn't be hard for me to check though. 3cyl is after LJ80 width though (and If I went custom housings myself I'd want similar), which is requiring of custom work...

Just because I have these pictures floating around. Both are WTs chopped to use only the short sides. Note the rims aren't attached. I remember Tanshi saying a coily short side is the same length as an LJ50 axle?

So guys an update with my front locker. I have used it no more then 5 times. It now has an air leak.
Was always fine when I used it. I let it sit for 4-5 months without use. I did engage it every 3 weeks and took it for a little drive.
Today I checke it and it leaking. Piece of shit. My friend bought 2 for his 80 series and they worked great when they worked. Both leaked within the first 3 times of use.
Unless you enjoy pulling them apart, I wouldn't recommend them.

swifty_ano wrote: Bruce wrote: Replace the viton orings with ARB ones. About $2.50 each How hard is that too change? Rather easy JMO. Take diff out and put on the bench, take clip off where the orings are (you will see that easy) Remove orings (10 sec), replace with new ones (1 min cause you want to make sure it's clean and sitting in the grooves) Bench test to check for leaks (if you want but I always do but thats me) Then refit diffs. But before you do all that, get a spray bottle and have soapy water and turn locker on and spray around all fittings to make sure there is no leak elsewhere.

Does chinasoong make a rd208 now? When I bought mine, rd88 was the only model.
