Fairly sure the 'sports' models was the name given to overseas sidekicks that have the wider chassis, similar to the SV420/SV620 models locally.

EDIT: Yep - what Atari said :)

I though tit was just a marketing ploy by car yards, a bit like putting alloy wheels or chrome grille and a sticker saying Estate Limited Edition, or Sports.

Perhaps it's the 2wd version.

I'm pretty sure the 'sport' moniker is inspired by the wider track and addition of sporty flares, and other plastic shit.

Google tells me that the sport also has a 1.8l engine.

No mention of my 2wd theory though, guess I should have had a bit of a search before theorizing.

Don't worry. With all the different variations, finding credible info on the interwebs is like hearding cats.

I didn't know they didn't get the J20a or H20a, but meant that the sport model had the 1.8 rather than the 1.6.

I'm guessing pretty much everyone, except for me, already realized this though. I should stick to Sierra related topics, at least until I get Vitara.

There is no 'sports model" vitara - that page refers to the SV418 Sidekick Sport which was offered only in the USA, Canada & the LHD Caribbean - which is essentially what you guys call the wide track Vitara but with a J18 engine rather than the J20 & H20 that you would had - it was sold in both 2 & 4 door versions, with both 2WD & 4WD and only for a three year period (96~98) making it a relatively rare vehicle, and an absolute pain in the backside to get parts for.
