Hey guys,

getting nothing when i turn my headlights on. bulbs are fine,no blown fuses, when i hook my test light to the body or negative battery terminal it shows power going to the globes but nothing happening after them. if i earth the globe(with earth.wire) it comes on.

Little bit of a headscratch happening at the mo, any thoughts will be appreciated

Definitely connected to the switch, i held the test light to the pos on the switch and that was definitely turning on and off. also the terminals on the globe were switching on or off with the switch.

Hey Tzar, at the risk of sounding like an idiot what does that mean and how do i fix it? electrical isnt my strong point but i want to learn :)

Negative switched means the switch is in the negative or ground side of the circuit - which explains why the globes light when you ground them.

Go and ground the wire where it goes in to the switch (use a 15A fuse if you're worried about a short circuit) - if the lights come on, you have a problem in the switch, if the lights don't then they're not connected to the switch.

Ohh awesome thanks fordem. I have read that the wiring for the headlights is notoriously weak, should i re-wire them and use some better cable and new relays? That way i could put the switches in the positive side and just ground them properly up front?

If you think you're up to it - carry on smartly - what I would suggest is that you consider Royce's Bright Eyes upgrade loom.

do your wipers work?
does your high beam come on when you pull the high low beam back to pass?

find the plug under the column with the most wires in it and find the low and high beam wires (match to the colours at the headlight plug in the top and right hand vertical pins when looking from the back of the plug

earth your testlight and stab those wire as close to the switch as you can, if the test light glows dim and the headlight sort of glows the wiring is ok.

now find the other plug under there with less wires and find the black one and turn your lights on, stab this with your test light again on the switch side of the plug, if it lights up try the other side, if it still lights up check all your earths under there, its likely come off or loose

if it doesnt light up the switch is probably had it or dirty
