He also gave me the price for 31" bighorns $255each. He advised me that there is also the kl71 muddies. He said he has heard good things from these and that they are actually quieter then the Bighorns, PLUS they are directional muddies and only $230 a tyre.
So the questions are: Has anyone tried the KL71's??? Which one would you recomend (Note: Both 31" and wont be useing them daily) Alien on here runs them for a summer tire and km2 for winter, he recons the kl71 are good value for money just not as good in the mud/wet rock stuff. if you PM him he will tell you more. i run the bighorns, just get them! Joe also has KL71's on the LWB GV, and drove to Vic and back on them... haha, ask Mr & Mrs Joe what they thought of them on that trip.

Well I'm afraid I've ended up with a set of Buckshits. My hand was pretty much forced after I rolled two of the BFG ATs off in one day again. My favourite workshop in Lithgow just happened to have a set of them in the right size (265/75/16) from a cancelled order. 4 tyres for $450 fitted and balanced - couldn't really say no: They're nice big lugs, big voids... should do well in the mud, but the lack of any side biters I reckon will limit them on rocks and clay ruts. Did a 30km-ish easy gravel and rocky track, and at 15psi they were quite good. Bit of scrubbing, but nothing that can't be fixed. At 30psi and doing 110kph on the way home they get a good wail up, but under that speed are quite quiet, and behaved well on dry roads at any speed. They are really just a deep cut AT though. If anyone's interested the same place has a set of them in a 35/12.5/15 that he wants to get rid of at cost, about $260 a tyre. Farkin cheap for 35s!

I can vouch for the good year duratracs. Although a bit exy they are an excellent middle ground tyre. Have used both 225/75 and 33 x 15's. Slightly noisey on the road but more than bearable. Plenty of grip in the wet. Once u get off the tarmac they are grippy, wear very well even when pushed and bag out nicely.
I noticed the coopers st maxx and was very keen on them for my vit, however at close to 300 a tyre it adds up. They look similair to the duratrac but i have never used them.
I am running the general grabber at 2 at the moment. For just over 900 for 4 they arent super cheap. They look great, quiet on the road. Havent been in the rain yet. Strong side wall but bag out when let down. No idea on wear or in mud.

I love em. At $300 for the 225's i have they're on the dearer side, i've had goodyears before and they were a great tyre. I did'nt want a full blown mud tyre as this is a daily, but the Duratrac's are quite agressive and the most agressive A/T i've ever seen.

I fitted new set of Maxxis Bighorn 764 M/T to the jimny and they are great! Bit of road noise on freeway at 110 but they handle wet roads good, dry road great, and offroad....awesome! Haven't done much steep rocky climbs yet as gearing has to be sorted first(31" tyres) but they love the soft loamy soil and eat the mud up! I like em, probably will try mudzilla next?

Every tyre is quiet on the tar when you have Silverstone MT117 Xtremes. Man they get the howl up but i still reckon they are the best Victorian mud tyre available for a zook. And now that they are importing them in a 31-10.5 R16 they are great for the moddified GV's and SV620 Vits

hey guys, what's everyones thoughts on the best and most aggressive MT in 30" for a jimny?
I am pretty dead set on getting 29/7.5 simex centipedes, but if there is something better in 30" then I'd love to hear it and way up my options?
there's always peoole who love the centipedes and then their is others who think they are overrated. I can't tell as I have had no personal experience. so is there anything better for weekend bush play in 30"? treps, claws, boggers??

centipedes suck on everything except mud... but when they do get into mud there's no stopping them.

Kimtown, I think the bigger problem with those 29" pedes is they are 29" tall. You'll have awesome grip until you get stuck because you dragged your diffs. Every tiny bit of diff clearance you can get in Vic is a huge plus. I can't comment on radial treps. They look like a summer tyre to me, which is the case for most small radials. Personally, I'd run 7.50 16 MP trekkers on a Jimny, but fitting them might be beyond what you're willing to do. 7.50's are nearly 32" tall, but they're often quite easy to fit because they're so narrow they tuck inside the guards like a stock tyre - they don't need as much guard work as a wider tyre, still, there'd be quite a bit of work and the gearing would require more attention. here's a set on a JDM sierra PS I know this is off topic, but it's critical you run a large cooler and a temp gauge on your jimny auto, especially if you aren't running deep gearing offroad. These autos are tiny and get VERY hot in offroad conditions. Please consider this as the first thing you do along with diff breathers. the jimny auto is extremely expensive to rebuild/replace. (they were $8500 from suzuki, and there's no source for aftermarket parts) Steve.

I will consider it. my original thoughts were if it ever did go, heavens forbid, I'd just install a m16b with a manual gearbox instead of fixing the ridiculously priced gearbox. edit: I should have just brought a sierra

Its come time to look into what tyres to pick up for the axle cruncher LJ. Price isnt really of a massive concern for me, ill simply buy the best tyre i can. Tyre size must be 35" or metric equvalent and must fit on a 15x8 beadlock rim.
My preference are creepies or Krawlers but would also be happy with KM2s (because they work so well on my LJ50), treps and ive even looked at the pitbull rockers.
Basically im wanting to know peoples experiences with these and other tyres of the same ilk. The car will be built lightish. im aiming at about 1100-1200kg so im wanting something that bags nicely but isnt too weak in the side wall.
I drive rocks and in the dry, avoiding mud like the plague so ETs are not in my options list.

Krawlers just never stop amazing me in the dry. 4-5psi and very, very slow wheel speed and they seem to magic traction out of thin air.
