Cut these out the other day out of 12mm MS. Shallow enough to be used with the standard front bar and leae the point assecable. Thats a Sierra brake pad next to it for size reference. Haven't mounted them yet sill tossing up to go RUF or not. 2 extra 10mm holes will need to be drilled at the back for extra support. Plan to have them mounted on the inside of the rail thoigh with crush tubes of course. And this is the amount that would be needed to trim of the standard bar if I go ahead with it and not do the RUF. All up its only a 45mm by 14mm notch that needs to be removed. And the recovery holes should sit about 40-45mm below the standard front bumper Leaving a very tidy fromt end with good recovery points

I used to occasionally snap 50mm balls on beaches just towing boats out if I went a bit hard - mind you I was using a 5 tonne tractor as a commercial fisherman... There is no way I want to be near anyone trying to skull drag more than a small trailer using a tow ball - seen one pass straight through the back window, then the front window, then back through the front window on the whip and embed itself in a passenger headrest - good job no passenger that time. Also note a woman killed a while back on a beach here in Australia - hit in the throat by half a towball, must have been realyl great for her kids to see that - I don't think it was a freak accident, just stupidity..... http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-21/f ... nt/2848762The threaded stub on a 50mm ball looks like it would handle anything, but the leverage from the ball even with the shoulder firmly set against the towbar tounge easily reduces the shear resistance to a fraction of what you think under shock loading. Remember we are talking a $10 lump of machined steel - it is neither hardened nor is it high tensile. I wouldn't expect a towball to have half the stength of one full test high tensile 10mm bolt...

Also you guys might want to consider snatch strap ratings! if you use a to highly rated strap (eg: 10,000kg) on a light car (suzuki) you wont get enough stretch to reduce the shock load of the recovery which will cause damage
