i was speaking to the boys next door at bob jane and he was saying that the supply of maxxis tyres to aus is limited now and they cant really get any big horns. so they are manly selling federals and kuhmos now (he said he dont like selling them if he cant get you a replacement if you stake or something). aus was only about 4% of their world market and they lost all their skilled workers so they dont manufacture as many pieces per day.

Hey just seeing what size tyres I should run on my Sierra leafy. I would like views and opinions of what people have and recconend. Currently some worn out 31s with no gearing. I'm after size and thinking of costs also when I replace this set. Cheers

I want to run some good mud terrain tyres, I have had 235 75 15 and they were good, just don't want to have to run reduction gears just yet. The guy I bought my sierra off just chucked on a set of 31s I think, for the noobs can you tell if it's got gears?

Hey all,

Got an offer for a set of brand new KM2s in 265/75R16 for $380 each fitted and balanced - good price? They were a cancelled order, so shop is discounting them to get them out the door.

Other options (Treps, STTs, Couragias, MTZs, in 32-33ish) were all well over $400 each.

Depends. My G13a with 31's wouldnt like going uphill in 5th had to be in 4th to get up inclines.
my Mates G13b 5th gear same hill would continue to rev and get up to 130ish+.
So, if yours is standard engine, you'll notice. :)

No good to me, I need 16s.

Retreads are illegal for road use, yeah? (Not that you'd want to run those on road anyway!)

Retreads are not the crap they used to be.
I prefer new tyres when possible, of course.

Shipping quote back from Tyre Rack (split to get under $1000 each.)

BFG KM2s in 265/75R16:
3 tires shipped would be $984.39
2 tires shipped would be $814.30

So total of $1800, plus say $100 to get them fitted and balanced.

Or locally 5 x $380 fitted and balanced is $1900 - and they're on the rack ready to go.

How much cutting do u recon it will take to get these under the vit
Might need to geta body lift
What size rim would u need 15x10?
They would hang WAY out the guards which would be good to stop hitting my panels on rocks

Hey guys been away from the forum for a while with life usual UP's and down's

Need to buy some fresh 205/70/15 All-terrains and wondering if anyone can recommend something cheap and cheerful.
I was diagnosed with cancer in the lung last month and am due to start chemo soon (hodgkins lynphoma)
So i need something to replace the sumitomo HT that have been faithfull for the last 70,000+ kms, on sand+ dirt + rock, i was looking at my spare 'AT dueler' with 100% tread and was thinking hey that profile isn't so bad if i can still get it.

Please no 'go bigger, get muddies' just need tyres so i can stick to the bitumen better than i am currently

Cheers

All that barwork and you're still trashing panels? They wouldn't end up wider than your sliders would they?

Would take a shite-load of stoopid offset to clear chassis. Behind back doors would be the problem, as per usual. Otherwise longer arms to kick the axle back... I don't think a 2" BL would buy you enough space.

I can recommend Maxxis Tyres, either the Bravo 751, which is a mild AT, they are 75% Road, 25% Off road -
http://www.maxxistyres.com.au/tyredetai ... d=37&cat=3
Or the Bravo 771/700, which is a more aggressive AT, they are 70% Road, 30% Off road -
http://www.maxxis.com/AutomobileLight-T ... eries.aspx

They both come in the size you want, and would be under $200 each, i have the Bravo 771's, and they wear extremely well, and are very good on dry and wet road, as well as being good off road... hope this helps... :D

I would need -90 on a 10in rim to clear the chassis i think
But i would need a hell of a lotof chopping the clear fire wall
If i went to wider diff then u could get away with less offset and should be able to clear the fire wall
Way too much work on a regoed car
My wife would kill me lol

Yeah that helped. the 751 look toooo 'turtle shell' for my liking (which is what put me off the sumitomo at) i feel happier if it has 2 or 3 straight line grooves for the water channeling (may have the terminology wrong)

It turns out my mums-partener-friends-son owns a local Tyres & More shop. Looked at what he could do for the bravo 700 (no 771) but ended up going for some yokohama geolander AT. Pretty sexy, should pick them up on the stock rims i dropped off next monday Armsup

In case people haven't seen them these new 31' Hifly All Terrain from china are interesting

[quote="DarkHorse"](split to get under $1000 each.)[quote]

there is your problem.

they will fedex them, be to your door in 5-7 days and likely never get checked by customs.

look into the import duty and you would spend less to pay that than your spending on getting two seperate shipments.

Hmmm, not sure i like them, those cuts in the outer third of the tyre look odd to me... i cant see them clearing mud at all, but just block up, and on a wet road, the look like they will fill up with water... they just look odd to me... :?
I saw those Yoko Geo's in Bob Jane, they arnt cheap, unless you got mates rates, haha... :D

so you've seen one in the flesh too? i believe the rate was extremely good, since i cant find any australian-based online prices that come close :peaceout: i believe the guy might have a franchise sales quota obligations linked with the yoko's.

Most online reviews have been positive in a large mix of vehicles, patrols, landcruisers, several newer model vitaras but no sierra.
General report is people are impressed with how much of a beating they take and get good milage on the heavier vehicles. Only one negative review about it wearing down quick was a 1.6l LWB vit owner but i wouldn't be suprised the steering alignment and suspension components are not up to par.

just check the load rating on the tyre - the higher that is, the stiffer the sidewall is likely to be and the less "good" it will perform under a sierra offroad.

Learn something new everyday :D

the yoko geo rating is 96S (180km,710kg)
the maxxis 771 are 96t (190km, 710kg)
current sumitomos 95t (190km, 690kg)

I always suspected that despite the amount of times my sidewalls get a thrashing and never had blown was partly due to the fact the tyre where designed to take a lot more loaded weight on each tyre. it only takes 1.4 stock tyres to support the weight of the whole car Armsup
Also the sumitomo sidewall info says the sidewall has 1x polyester belt.... no steel :thefinger:

haha my 31" bfg KM2 have a load rating of 1030kg per tyre =P my zuk weighs about that.

i run the KM2 at 8psi offroad, they've leaked the air out of the bead once or twice but not come off the rim. Ideally i'd like to have them around 5psi, cos even at 8psi they still look fully inflated =)
