That cap goes on the inlet side of this internal fuel pump to convert it to external use

Will be even cooler if it works and doesn't leak

If you can't fix the problem with duct tape then its not worth fixing

Not sure yet. Ended up finding some 30x2mm o-rings for it but they didn't sit to nicely in the grooves and I pinched them putting the pump in :( . So gotta try and track down some 31x2mm o-rings which should work! BTW what is the overall OD of the grooves? 31+2+2 = 35mm?

I can't remember where The OD of the grooves ended up. There should be a small amount of clearance in the width and the diameter from memory.

Make sure any o rings you get are fuel friendly ones.

The Denso bike ECUs are fairly well known, there is a lot of information here:

http://ecuhacking.activeboard.com/

Its a few years since I looked at them, there was also a lot of stuff on the GSXR and TL forums. I worked with a guy in Greece to develop a programme to reflash them (and the Jimny/Baleno ECUs) using the diagnostic port.

Hey Dan, a friend and I are planning to have a go at a tunable ignition only setup for my RA28 celica. Doing it more for the project aspect than anything else so making everything from scratch is no big deal. He is a mechatronic engineering student and I am doing mechanical so between us we should be able to figure it out - we also have access to a whole bunch of electronic diagnostic tools. Its a 4cyl engine and redline will be set ~8500rpm. we are planning to use a 36-1 trigger wheel mounted on the distributor drive, hall effect, TPS, atmega and coil/ignitor on plug. Going to set up a test bench similar to yours to get the coding started.

Just wondering if you have any protips, pointers or things that are a waste of time. Hoping to learn from other peoples mistakes to save some time and $$ ;)

This is the car:

If I were Dan I'd suggest that have a look through some of the old Freescale/Motorola application notes. I'll dig out some numbers later if I remember.

That's a good link Rhinoman!

Here's another one that's a bit more simplified but still has some info http://www.freescale.com/files/microcon ... AN2159.pdf

Taff:
Sounds like a sweet project and it should work quite well! Hall effect pickup will make thing wayyyy more simplified hardware wise as opposed to using a variable reluctance sensor like I'm trying.

How are you guys with the atmels and writting code? That's where 90% of the magic is hidden :)

Feel free to contact me and come visit to discuss the project. Always interested in this sort of stuff!

Awesome guys they are great. Code is no problem 8)

Will absorb this info in the next couple days then possibly come back with some questions.

This is the main thread I come back to auszookers for so more updates!

Officially begun today - went to the wreckers and picked up 4x hall effect from hyundias and 2x MAP sensors from corollas, $15 all up I don't think they guy knew what they were. decided on MAP over TPS for ease basically. the vacuum ports are already there and the added bonus - we can now balance the carbs with the 2 MAP sensors 8) hooked them up to an arduino and output looks good. Just waiting on a trigger wheel from the UK and we can start logging some data from the stock system :)

Have you considered the implications of running the Ardsuino OS? as its not a real Time OS I wouldn't think that it would be ideal for an EFI system.

That's sounds like a descent start!

I'm assuming that you are just using the Arduino for just having a play/look at the sensor outputs etc. From the implications as rhinoman pointed out you are best using a bare microcontroller with all the peripherals required and writing up the whole lot in C code and have direct access to the MCU ports and registers etc. What Arduino are you using atm?

An ignition system or any IC engine control is basically built upon a very tight and critical RTOS setup, hence why I asked previously how you guys were at writing code. Interrupt handling and latency becomes extremely important if you want to have an accurate and reliable system. Definitely a must for ignition timing!

Post up a pic of your sensors you gathered. I'm still looking for a nice neat hall effect sensor for my cam phase info :)

Made up some mounts to hold the injectors and fuel rails and cleaned up the manifold a bit. So now the fuelling hardware is pretty much all sorted finally!

Now time to get cracking on the ECU side of things!

Pretty much finished the ECU schematics off and found a nice die-cast alloy box to house all the awesomness into.
Here's a pic of the enclosure compared to the stock ignitor PCB and casing for size comparison:

So I have a bit more PCB area to play with. Should be enough I hope :)

Well as luck would have it the OEM EFI sensors I've come across physically don't fit in the limited space confines of this engine.

Solution: Rum fuelled innovative thinking  Armsup

What you see: An all brass bodied marine push button switch
Image

What I see: A nice housing with a fine pitch M16 thread to mount a hall effect sensor to detect cam phase
Image
Image

What you see: 1/4" fuel line fitting
Image

What I see: A perfect sized housing to mount a thermistor to be mounted in the cylinder head for measuring engine temperature
Image

I will use JB weld (epoxy) to fix the sensors in there place once I add some nice shielded cables to them.
Should work out quite nice.
