Hey guys im just doing the timing belt/water pump/seals on the G13A at the moment and have a few questions.

My issue is that i followed the FSM and the Haynes manual setting the #1 piston to TDC by checking the dizzy making sure its at the right point and then lining up the keyway/notch on the crank sprocket. All is well until i got to the cam sprocket which is 180 degrees opposite to the notch.

Doing some searching i get a few different answers by different people, some of the results i found say that the crank points up and the cam points down and its all good the way it is... But then i find more results that say both should be pointed upwards?

Atleast the upside of the vitara i just my hands on, i dont have to rush with the sierra anymore Armsup

Thanks in advance guys!

Turn the cam so that both the No1 rockers are on the base circle and are loose... On the rock..
This will tell you if the mark goes top or bottom.
I can't remember off the top of my head.

I see now! This is my experience with timing belts

So from what im taking from all this, how i have it now is correct with no1 at TDC. And if i spin the crank 360 than the cam spins 180 and no4 will be at TDC :)

Many thanks for the help guys!
