I need to replace the clutch and am tossing up the idea of getting a H/D clutch.

There was a H/D in there when I bought it and lasted about 2-3 years, A standard clutch replaced it and has lasted about 1 1/2 - 2 years. Obviously being manual and going offroad without reduction gears it has been punished which is why the short lifespan.

Of course the H/D clutch has more clamping force and is better suited for towing and high torque motors, however the Standard clutch would do the same job.

What do you fink is gooderer?

FWIW I put a HD clutch in my sierra when I got it (it needed a clutch).
About 6 months ago, I installed a standard clutch.

Main reason was the missus had trouble pushing the clutch pedal.
The HD clutch had 60k kms on it and seemed in pretty good condition.

Weak or strong link, you will more than likely break CVs, or diff housings, before the clutch breaks.

If you have reduction gears there is no need for a heavy duty clutch, in fact I cant think of many Sierra's that would need a heavier than stock clutch.

slipping the clutch kills em, overheats the clutch plate

the extra clamping pressure of a HD clutch doesn't do anything useful here cause you are deliberately stopping it clamping

Not to derail this thread, but maybe I can save creating a new one. My rig is fucked at the moment, I think I've burnt out the clutch, but I just want to know if all the problems I am having sound like they are related to it.

Been driving for a while now on 30's without reduction gears (been on the to get list). Driving out yesterday, smelled the clutch burning when just driving along (no gear change) and now the engine just wants to rev out without picking up speed (crawled home at 20km/h), but I can still change gears without grinding. Also the other thing is the revs are intermittently very sporadic, jumping up and dropping under acceleration massively (only done it once or twice in the last few weeks, but it has gotten worse since yesterday)

Does this sound like it could be the clutch or is there a larger issue with the engine or gearbox?
Just want to get an opinion before I go out ordering new parts.

Yep, clutch

Try adjusting the cable before you go pulling the box out. You want some free play at the adjuster nut on the gearbox

Not sure of tech terms.
But I believe you want the friction surfaces to be good,
not nessarily pressure plate pushing harder against clutch plate.

I don't believe all HD clutches are all better friction surfaces.
Some are just a heavier pressure plate.
(Not ideal in a cable operated clutch)

Have no idea what a good quality clutch should be,
but stamping HD on itdon't necessarily make it better choice.
Sorry for lack of tech speaks.
And only my opinion, nothing to back it up with.
