I had a pvc snorkel on my first zook with a safari snorkel head, it worked great and was cheap to make. Just be aware that they are very fragile so keep them away from tree's on tight tracks ect. Mine broke pretty fast.

For my second sierra i ended up using straight 3inch exaust tube and then bought 3 inch mandrel bends. Only cost about $100 to make and 1 day....something to consider if you end up wanting to change it in the future.

Do you have any pics or info, on how you did that steel one, and where you got the parts from ?

I don't have any pics of me making it, but it is a pretty easy process if you have access to welder. I used a nut sert gun to secure it to the windscreen frame. I got the exhaust pipe from a 'car line muffler' store. Here's a pic of how it sat on the sierra. LOL at the falcon hub cap that i put on for that 4wd trip :D

I added a 45 degree bend to the top of mine, (pionts down slightly) to stop rain and have it facing backwards to prevent catching on the bush.

Anyone noticed any benifits with air forced in from facing forwards.

I did a quick google on the performance gains and the results sucked, 50/50 all hearsay, no dyno - not surprised.

But I found this page TJM Airtek Snorkel what caught my eye was this line:

Your Jimny deserves more than a piece of B+Q drainpipe - leave that for the SJ owners!

Ha! enuf said :)

Do you people realize some industrial hardcore suction hose would be even cheaper and virtually unbreakable?

Of course the results all sucked..... if the results blew, your engine is running backwards.

Well clearly no dyno... unless someone feels like setting up a dyno in a wind tunnel :?
It would be the only way we would ever get definitive proof. And even then, results would change between models of vehicles.
Some "testing" was done on a landruiser. Using same snorkel head on a sierra would be completely different result.

Thought I would add my snorkel to this too.
This is a copy from my old build on the club site.

Made a Snorkel today. I had almost everything already to do it in PVC, I just had to get one elbow.
I will make a nice stainless one eventually (probably when I break this one)

Also adjusted some seams on the Drivers side and painted them.

i did have a look in the filter pod once after driving in a heavy rain to check, and there was nothing in there. I would say that any that did get in wet the inside of the tube and evaporated into the engine pretty quickly, it was only supposed to be temorary until I broke it and made a better one. but I sold the car coming over here too soon.
