Hey guys, having a few probs with my Sierra so I was having a look at every thing, and noticed this...

Is there any hose that's supposed to connect to it?

Unless I have my foot on the accelerator, the engine stalls. When I first start it, it idles fine but then slowly the revs drop and it stalls. On Friday it was idling way to high after I took it for a drive, so I undid the idle screw a bit, it drive sweet for the rest of the day but I tried to start it yesterday and it wouldn't go, ended up spraying carby cleaner in the top of the carby to get it to fire. The carby was reconditioned 6 months ago, and I've given it a good clean. I've taken it apart and cleaned it all. I've dropped the fuel tank and cleaned it out, changed my fuel filter. I've also changed the ignition coil and my leads. I'm not sure what else I can do, so I thought I'd look into it being a problem with the fuel pump. I don't know much about anything though haha

No, nothing needs to be connected to that barb. It's a drain. If fuel starts coming out of it you have a dead fuel pump.

Otherwise, it might be a crook fuel pump causing your problems, or blocked jets in the carby?

Ive tried cleaning the carby jets out by putting my hand over it and starving it, but I'm not sure if that made any difference, I did that about 5 times and also pulled the whole thing apart and cleaned it all with carby cleaner, could it still be a blocked jet?
I guess the only way to find out if it's the fuel pump is to replace it and see how I go right?

You stripped the whole carby right down? Did you follow a manual or anything? Did you replace the gaskets? Are the auto choke hoses blocked? Is the auto choke even working?

Could it be the idle solenoid?

Yeah, stripped down the whole carby and cleaned everything, all the gaskets were fine as its only 6 months old. Should I have replaced them? I replaced all the hoses too, how do I check if the auto choke is working?

It could be the solenoid, I just have a hard time believing that because the carby is so new haha

Won't hurt to check the solenoid clicks when you turn the ignition on and off.

To check the choke start it cold and leave the carb hat off, the choke flap should be covering the throat, as the car warms up the choke flap should drop away.

And the gaskets should be fine so long as you didn't break any.

okay, Idle solenoid clicks so i think thats fine. ill check the auto choke in an hour or so, the cars just been out for a spin so shes a bit hot. and nope, no broken gaskets. I dont know what else i could do, i had a play around with the idle screw and it seems to be okay. its idling at 1100 rpm. i drove around for half and hour and the idle had dropped down to 200 rpm, so i did the screw up again. not to sure whats going on there

Auto choke doesn't seem to be doing anything, the flap is always dropped

okay ive got the sierra to idle okay but it just wont start up by itself, it cranks over but wont start unless i spray a bit of aero start in the carby.. not sure what to do there

i thought it had gone away but it didnt... i cable tied the auto choke open and let it warm up before i drive it now.. but it still idles all over the place and sometimes dies
