I'm looking at getting some bits together so I can fit a steel front diff housing in my '96 V6 Vitara.
While there I may as well fit 5.12 gears eh.

So ........ What models came with the 5.12 diffs? is it just the 1600 models?
Are the V6 inner CV splines size/number the same?

Cheers for the help ;)

Great, cheers guys.

Last question....... is there a code on the chassis plate to indicate if the diff ratio is 5.12?
Surely the 1600's haven't all got 5.12 diffs?

im not sure but if you jack the back up you can spin the tailshaft and count how many times the wheel turns to figure it out

No code. Some came with 4.6's. Mainly the 3sp autos, and the import 4sp autos. No manual 1.6 came out with anything other than 5.12 AFAIK.

All 1.6 efi swb manuals or autos have 5.12's
All 1.6 lwb manuals or autos have 5.12's
Swb 1.6 carby auto are 4.6's (i think)

I've heard there is a model ('89 1.3 carbed swb) that came out with 5.625 diff ratio. I don't know what market they were sold to though.
Anyone came across them before? Or are they rare as hens teeth?

Rare enough that you can pretty much ignore the theory that they ever actually existed ;)

A 1.3 vitara souns like it could have been a suzuki experiment in 1988. I doubt ( if they even exist) that there would have been many made at all.

I believe they were available in the US.

There was also a tbi injected lwb with a TH180C (trimatic with a lockup converter) and I think that had a 5.38 or something. Also hard to find.

All good.
I've got a 5.12 gear set for the rear diff coming. Just have to find a set for the front now. Hopefully I'll have a set for that soon :)

Too lazy to get under for a look ATM, did Suzuki put ratio tags on the diffs or are they stamped on the r&p?

Just the fronts. so you need two front vitaras R&Ps.

Problem is between the thirds or housings exploding and ppl pinching them for Sierras they are much harder to find than rears (though not too hard).

So all lwbs, efi and carby, auto and manual are 5.12s

LWB were all EFI, and yes, all 5.12 as far as I'm aware.
