ok so I'm hopeing some one else has had the same issue..
my Jim has a stock exaust.
a week or so ago I fitted up a tow bar, and it was rubbing on the exaust at the tail pipe.
a few days after it developed a "rattle". it sounds a bit like a heat shield and sounded like it was coming from beside gearbox on passingers side. it is at about 3000-4500rpm at around half throttle.
it sounds a lot like a heat shield but kind of like a bearing rattle from the gearbox....

I re-made mounts for towbar a few days ago and rattle had got a whole lot quieter, not quite gone. I also checked exaust, and all the stupid heat shields feel tight,

today the rattle is back. and a little worse, it now makes the same rattle off the the throttle..

I'm thinking its the cat colapsing? I tried to remove shields off the exaust/cat however the bolts are well and truely seezed.

do you guys think its worth grinding the bolts off the covers, and to see if that's the issue?

or any other ideas?

6 sided socket and WD-40 ;)

Sounds like if it started only after the tow bar then it's a tow bar rubbing on your zorst... That or your muffler bearings are on there way out.

Definitely muffler bearings.
Replace them then fit blinker fluid injection to the grease nipple.

its a wierd one as the rattle is coming from way up front.
if its lunged a gbox or xcase, that's cool I have spair of each.
I was thinking of pulling out cat and bashing internals out of it, however it has bends either end of joins before cat.

I'm 90% certain it's still your towbar... Mine was the same till I got my
2" exhaust and the fella that did it slightly changed its route to miss it

The rear muffler is located on rubber hangers. Mine can move quite a bit and I sometimes hear it hitting the tow bar. Grab the muffler and move it around to see if you can duplicate the noise you are hearing. Since it started after you fitted the tow bar this is the first clue about where to look I think.

rattle found!
if you get under the Jim and shake shit out of exaust, you can actually feel something shacking about in the cat!

also even when shacking the zorst as hard as I can the rear muffler only just touches towbar
