Got sick of having no interior light, so I went to the wreckers and found this

Made a spacer for it out of some MDF

Had to change the wiring in the back of it to suit the negative switching, just a matter of connecting the two power wires together, and separating the two earth's (one switched, one not) the light already had separate earth's for the main light and the map lights.

The main light now only operates on the door's, you cant turn it on with the 'on' switch, the 'on' switch is actually the 'door' function.

Also planning to run a switch to the rear near the tailgate, so I can turn it on from the back of the car. (i could also add a switch next to the light to restore the 'on' function

The map lights have constant power ( i should probably run a separate wire to them on 'acc' so they don't get left on.
I may even get tricky and try and fix the switching of the 'on' button on the light at the same time.)

The light is out of a galant, and is a very good fit for the 'roll bar thing'

Pulled it apart again today, seems the light was already set up for negative switching... doh...

So I added a relay to give me a switchable earth on accessories, and ran another wire up to it... it now works fully as intended, with the main light 'on' function and the map lights coming on with the key, and the 'door' function always operational.

I also spliced a wire into the original door switch (earth) wire, and put a switch near the tailgate, so i can turn the light on from the back of the car, when i get shopping/go camping ect.

I was wondering about that - every car I've ever worked on had negative switching on the dome light - makes for a lot less wiring with the multiple switches required.
