Hey guys. I've done some research and read about the different tyres everyone has chosen. I just thought I'd ask what everyone recommends I've got a stock Jimny which I just installed a 2" lovells lift a couple of days ago. I'm looking for something like a 70-30% all terrain. Wanted the bf goodrich 215/75/15 but they are pretty expensive! Do you all recommend this is the best size for on road drivability but also performance off road? I thought it would give it a little more height also. What are the maxxis all terrains like? I'm the north side Brisbane so if anyone can recommend somewhere to go and the approx price I should be paying it would be muchly appreciated. Thanks guys!

I see maxxis make a 30x9.5x15. What do you think this would drive like? Would they be too big? I'd prefer not affect fuel economy and acceleration too much do do you think this would be inappropriate or be no good with the standard Jimny gearing?

I'd stick with 215's if you don't want to play with gearing. Maxxis do an AT in that size

Hi mate

This question has been asked a million times so I will try and collate all that information here

I have a 99 jimny and did the 2" lift too (ome though)

I pretty much read all the forum arguments (here, bigjimny, jimny.se, etc.). I ended up buying the bf goodrich tyres 215/75/15 second hand from someone on these forums, and they have been perfect. I would continue buying 215's when they run out. The cons of the 235's make them unappealing to me

You have to remember that the tread type and extra size of either size hugely increases offroad performance either way you go. You will like the 215's with A/T or M/T tread plenty. If you choose the 235's I would suggest start with a second hand set and test them out before breaking the bank.

215

+ much better highway performance, sits under 4000 (yours will already anyway if you have a newer jimny than me).
+ Still happy with stock jimny gearing, both on and offroad
+ more brand options (i seem to remember)
+ fits stock jimny rim
- less lift than a 235

235
+ greater tyre width
+ extra diff-ground clearance (extra 0.6")
- a number of people found the jimny gearing unbearable with these tyres, this was the big one, as I havent found an offroad reason to lower my gearing yet and its an expensive thing to do. Also they apparently do burn out the jimny's gearboxes
- most people found scrubbing and had to trim guards, etc (I have lost most of my guards, and have checked, the 235's fit fine on mine.
- Speedo out considerably (fixable of course)
- (some people argue this point) need to buy offset, larger rims

Somebody told me the BFgoodrich's measure tyre size from under the tread, and the actual tyre size is bigger. Not sure if this is true or not. Also I find I need to let my BFG's down alot more psi on sand with their strong-ass sidewall

A common theme of this forum seems to be to get the biggest tyres you can, chop the guards, lower the gearing, offset the rims. For my daily/hobby hybrid jimny, alot of it isnt really practical. If your jimny is purely for offroad, then maybe you should be going this route.

I would stick with a 215. I ran 215s km2 with a 40mm lift. Now 3" lift
I wouldn't go bigger then a 215 with a 2" lift as the tyre will scrub, and gearing will be crap.
Jimny gearing is on te edge off being shit running 215s aswell.

Only thing is you don't have much diff pumpkin clearance I get hung up all the time on my front diff.
I feel diff shave coming soon :D

If you want cheap Bfg get them from tire rack like stated above.

my cousin has 215/75r15 KM2 on his jimny and they go great.

I've got 31" KM2 for my sierra as well as 31" Kumho KL71 and driving both one week after the other on the same tracks offroad i think the KL71 are better on everything dry, the road and on wet roads. The only time the KM2 outdid the KL71 was an a really slippery slick muddy climb - but its hard to compare that because the first time i tried with KL71 i had cracked and twisted rear axles and couldnt push too hard. When i made it up on the KM2 i was doing 7000rpm =) lol

So IMO, your best cheap alternative to the KM2 will be a KL71 in 215/75r15.

I personally would go the KM2.
If your concerned about getting tires bought from the states don't be. i have bought 4 sets of tires from there now and had them all inside of a week from paying for them.

I would be happy to help out you or any one else with purchasing from tire rack if you need it.

Cheaper alternatives to the BF Goodrich,

Hankook Dynapro MT03, - Similar to the KM2 but with cheaper sidewalls
Khumo KL71 - More Aggresive then the KM2 probably cheaper in construction aswell, although I have yet to confirm this.

Both are great value, about $200 a corner when I was looking. I got 5 of the hankook fitted for under a grand. While I never found a single fault with my KM2's I also haven't been able to find fault with my Hankooks yet either, they grip real good on road and the look great.

Definitely stick to the 215's for stock gearing. I have an 09 model and the 215's mean I have to change down a little earlier when going up hills and I would not go any bigger without gearing changes. I have the Hankook Dynapro MT's and these are really quiet on the road for a mud terrain and about $100 each less tham the KM2's. Mine is not a daily drive so I did not consider the AT's.

I also have the OME 40mm lift and no scrubbing problems at all.

I got 215's too, they are completely practical, no scrubbing with a lift (except the odd time they touch the front mudflaps, but I modified my flaps so now they never touch). But cosmetically they are inset too much on the stock rims, so the track looks a bit skinny still, I think Mike57^^ fitted slightly stockier rims with a different offset so looks a bit nicer cosmetically. Also the difs are still a bit low for deep ruts on 215's so they are kind of the easy option, but not very hardcore.

KM2s through tire rack will be probably $200 per corner or less shipped to your door.

I bought my km2 from tyre rack
Far as I can remember is that they were $125 a tyre(bought 5)
And $320 postage

Correct Squibby, I purchased the rims from Dynamic Tyres and they are 6" rims and the 215's are a good fit. Offset was pretty much the same as standard though or very close to it.

I spent $185 each for the Hankooks but I did not know about Tire Rack back then. At the time i got mine there were no KM2's in the country in that size.
