i have just recently put a replacement 1.3 into my sierra, everything went well and it was running and idling. while it was idling i stupidly opened the butterfly valve at the top of the carby and it flooded with fuel and stalled out. now i can not get it started again.

i have
pulled plugs, cleaned and dried
checked its getting fuel
checked spark
checked carby (just rebuilt) everything is in its place
turned cylinder over to clear bores
tried aero start and nothing

is there something i am missing?, the leads are in correct sequence to

it seams that cylinder 1 and 2 are the only ones to be fouled with fuel

managed to start it today,
after cleaning plugs, clearing bores, one squirt of aero start she started BUT idles rough, everything seams normal then fuel will dump out of the two openings on the carby and it will stall out.

Image

i have tried holding the acel a little to keep the revs up but will still stall out

the engine will start and after roughly 20seconds fuel will start flowing out of the holes in the above picture and stall it out.

i think i may have something connected up wrong, does anyone have any ideas? i have looked over the carbys vac and coolant lines and everything looks like it is in its place.

Float is set incorrectly or your tank return is blocked.....

i talked to a carby specialist who suggested replacing my fuel filter and giving the top of the carby a tap with a dead blow hammer. surprisingly it worked and i was able to start and run the engine yesterday. he though since my fuel filter was old a bit of crap could have made its way into the carby.

thank you for the help mate

Gotta love the hammer fix. Sounds like some crap had made its way up into the needle and seat valve and was holding it open.
