You probably need the 3 legged type filter tool. Never seen one either so just a guess

ball managed to crack it with his snap on filter tool. every thing is mega tight
i reckon whoever serviced it last used a 20 foot pole on every thing.
it is behind the heat shield.
behind the shiny round thing on the aircon line
trust me it is in there
if there is a service tool for it i want one.

My 2.5 was bad as well. mangled the filter with a hand clamping one. Before going to buy one of the ratchet claw ones which worked superbly once I got it to bite into the rounded fucker.

Ive had the 3 prong version for quite a while now. Seem to work on all sizes and get into awkward spots. Had to buy one to change the silly little filter up front on Danielle's starlet.
They are a swine to get to

I've used the 2nd type that much it flared out, so got a 3 leg & I snapped it...

yep PITA.
you can just reach the filter on a 2.7 from in/ behind the passenger front wheelarch, and when you finally get it off, it dumps its contents on the cross member just to make sure you have made a mess...
